Any Chameeon F Loop users here, using the RT-RR kit?

Hi,

I recently got my F Loop with the 36″ loop and the RT-RR kit delivered. So far I was not able to use or test it because of a missing part and a DOA broken motor. Does anybody have experience with this antenna?

Google doodle 2016-11-30 – Jagadish Chandra Bose

Today’s Google doodle celebrates the 158th birthday of Jagadish Chandra Bose who, among many other things, did quite a bit of work in radio and microwave detection.

From Wikipedia:

Bose’s first scientific paper, “On polarisation of electric rays by double-refracting crystals” was communicated to the Asiatic Society of Bengal in May 1895, within a year of Lodge’s paper. His second paper was communicated to the Royal Society of London by Lord Rayleigh in October 1895. In December 1895, the London journal the Electrician (Vol. 36) published Bose’s paper, “On a new electro-polariscope”. At that time, the word ‘coherer’, coined by Lodge, was used in the English-speaking world for Hertzian wave receivers or detectors.

Bose was the first to use a semiconductor junction to detect radio waves, and he invented various now-commonplace microwave components.[24] In 1954, Pearson and Brattain gave priority to Bose for the use of a semi-conducting crystal as a detector of radio waves.[24] In fact, further work at millimetre wavelengths was almost non-existent for the following 50 years. In 1897, Bose described to the Royal Institution in London his research carried out in Kolkata at millimetre wavelengths. He used waveguides, horn antennas, dielectric lenses, various polarisers and even semiconductors at frequencies as high as 60 GHz;.[24] Much of his original equipment is still in existence, especially at the Bose Institute in Kolkata. A 1.3 mm multi-beam receiver now in use on the NRAO 12 Metre Telescope, Arizona, US, incorporates concepts from his original 1897 papers.[24]

UK Hams?

I can’t help but notice this sub (much like the rest of reddit) is very US centric.

This is not an issue when asking general ameture radio questions.

But when asking about rules of licencing questions those of us in the UK and the rest of the world do not seem to have a sub to go to.

Is there a UK sub I have failed to find.

Ir is it time we set one up. Mainly just for UK related stuff. Help with licence training finding UK specific deal and UK soecific rules etc.

Youngsters Learn About Radio Communication During Special Event:

More than 75 people stopped by to visit The
Villages Amateur Radio Club’s Radio on the
Square event Saturday at Lake Sumter Landing
Market Square. The weather was great and the
club got just what they wanted, families with
visiting grandchildren. One of those visiting
grandchildren, 10-year-old Joshua B. York up
from Miami was seeing Morse code
communication for the first time. “People ask
me, ‘Are you still doing that?’ People are
doing it now more than ever,” said Brown.
There are more than 700,000 amateur radio
operators currently in the United States.
Brown says that people mistakenly think
computers have made amateur radio obsolete.
“Computers are used to enhance it.” The club
holds three events a year to demonstrate
amateur radio in action. Club members are on
hand to talk to interested folks about the
required FCC test and licensing.

The waiting is the worst part!

So after lots of reading, and lots of suggestions from other operators (both here and on my 2m nets) I bought an HF rig…kinda.

I bought the BITX40 board from http://hfsigs.com and ordered a DDS VFO from QRP-kits (the recommended DDS module)

Now just waiting for it to ship and get here. In the meantime, I’ll be building a 40m folded dipole and getting ready.

Almost back on HF!
