Los Angeles Amateur Radio Club (LAARC) Hosts Annual Field Day … – Lasentinel

On Saturday June 23, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., the Los Angeles Amateur Radio Club (LAARC) will be taking part in annual Field Day exercises along with thousands of other amateur radio clubs across the country. The LAARC will set up for Field Day on the campus of California State University Dominguez Hills, 1000 East Victoria St., Carson, California 90746, in Parking Lot P1 on the northeast end of the campus east of Birchknoll Drive.  Throughout the country, more than 35,000 people will be participating, with ham radio operators setting up radio stations in unusual locations and making contact with others as a display of emergency communications capabilities.

In the past year alone, ham radio operators have made headlines with their communications work during wildfires, floods, tornadoes, and other crises. In addition, hams provide supplemental communications when normal systems are rendered inoperable or overloaded.  Using ham radios is also an easy and fun way to learn the basics of electronics, physics, meteorology, and electrical engineering.

All members of the public are invited to attend and to try out receiving calls, observe how amateur radio volunteers set up emergency field operations for communication purposes, and learn more about radio operations and equipment.  For more information or to confirm your visit, please contact LAARC Board member LaVerne Carter KJ6OSV at (323) 681-1901 or email us at w6pch@laarc.club
