Ham radios can help in emergencies – Yucaipa/Calimesa News Mirror

I am writing on behalf of 2 percent of Americans, this 2 percent are not the wealthy, or the rich, we are the amateur ham radio operators.

We are here and want to help the sleepy little city of Yucaipa to have emergency communications in case of a super event.

The ham radio people of Yucaipa and even Calimesa are trained, with training weekly and come from a long history of helping in emergencies. We have Veterans over 50, retired police and trained emergency responders in our group.

City of Yucaipa, just like you did when you studied round abouts in outlining cities, please reach out to Redlands Fire Dept. to get the ball rolling in Yucaipa, for our safety and proactive emergency planning.

I hope we can be a light set on a hill for others to follow in emergency protocol. CERT training is a wonderful first step, and ham radio personnel would be a great addition to that training. In case of an emergency, ham radio operators are the only ones who can communicate with others.

Twice a year training does not make for good Emergency preparation, we train weekly, and would love to have ANYONE join us, children or adults. Tuesday at 9 a.m. at the Calimesa Senior Center (thank you Norton Younglove center for your hospitality).
