Notices sent to alleged illegal operators in New Jersey and Connecticut
The Federal Communications Commission continues its efforts to rout out pirate operations on the eastern seaboard.
The FCC handed out a notice of unlicensed operation to Christian Torres at Radio Unidad in Bridgeport, Conn., for allegedly operating an illegal radio operation on frequency 100.9 MHz. After a consumer complained about an unlicensed FM station operating in the area, agents used direction-finding techniques to determine that radio signals were allegedly emanating from a commercial property at 2320 Main St. in Bridgeport.
A similar notice was sent to William Cotter, also of Bridgeport, for allegedly operating an unlicensed FM station on 104.7 MHz in this city of 146,000. Using direction-finding techniques, agents allegedly discovered that radio signals were emanating from a multi-family dwelling on Putnam Street.

Moving south to Irvington, N.J., agents sent a notice to Nnanna Okoro for a similar alleged infraction — operating an unlicensed FM station on the frequency 87.9 MHz in this northern township of 60,000. Enforcement Bureau agents confirmed by direction-finding techniques that radio signals on frequency 87.9 MHz were emanating from a property at 141 Coit St. The FCC said that Okoro was the registered agent for the owner of this property.
In each case, agents allegedly discovered that the stations were operating at a strength that exceeded the maximum permitted level of 100 microvolts per meter (μV/m) at 3 meters for non-licensed devices.
Each were warned that operating radio transmitting equipment without a valid radio station authorization is a violation of Federal law, and that an operator may be subject to monetary fines and criminal sanctions. Each individual has 10 days to respond with evidence they have FCC authority to operate.
