eHam.net News — CEBU City Councilor David Tumulak wants Mayor Tomas Osmeña to authorize the purchase of ultra high-frequency digital handheld radios and radio repeaters for the Cebu City Police Office (CCPO). This came after the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency 7 found that drug suspects Janice and Manuel Godinez tapped into the police’s signal prior to their arrest in Barangay Buaya, Lapu-Lapu City last Friday night. Tumulak, who is deputy mayor for police matters, said it is time the CCPO shift to digital gadgets to maximize its efforts in the war against illegal drugs. “Analog radios are easy to tap, but the digitals are impenetrable. It can’t even be jammed. Also, we’ll only distribute it to responsible persons to ensure security,” he said. He explained that most amateur radio groups and even the Lapu-Lapu City Police Office are still using analog radios, which make them vulnerable to signal tapping.
