eHam.net News – During a February ceremony, members of the Cannon County Rescue Squad, Inc., DeKalb/Cannon County Amateur Radio Club, and family members of the late Jerry Elkins got together for a dedication ceremony of a new radio tower at the Rescue Squad building. Jerry was an active member of the Amateur Radio Club and was a supporter of local and regional disaster radio communications. Jerry served Cannon County for many years as a member of the local Radio Club and he helped to promote amateur communications across the region. According to the National Association of Amateur Radio, Amateur Radio (ham radio) is a popular hobby and service that brings people, electronics, and communications together. People use ham radio to talk across town, around the world, or even into space, all without the Internet or cell phones.
