with a few amateur hams. He states [edited], "I will be celebrating the New
Year
here and will be calling for DX stations on 40m, 20m and 15m, CW mode just
to

02/01/2013: Cezar VE3LYC, Johan PA3EXX, Alex LU5WW and Luc LU1FAM hope to
be
operating as LU6W from Isla Escondida (SA-096), Chubut Province,
Argentina,
between 2-6 January 2013. Once again, the team would like to remind
everyone
that this expedition includes some very difficult logistics. Consequently,
the
above dates are approximate and can change depending on the weather
conditions.
Moreover, there is no guarantee that the team will be able to land. Rest
assured
the safety of everyone involved is paramount. Plans are to be QRV on the
HF
bands using two IC-7000 100 watt, two multiband verticals, two 1 kW
generators
and four car-type batteries. Hopefully two stations operating at one time.

21
November 2012 a recon mission to Escondida took place. You can see some

03/01/2013: Markus, DJ4EL, will be active as V31ME from Abergris Caye
(NA-073)
from 3-17 January, with a side trip to Long Caye (NA-123) on 5-12 January
2013.
He will operate on 20, 17, 15, 12 and 10 metre SSB. QSL via home call,

04/01/2013: Francis, F6BLP, will once again be active as 6W7SK from
Saly
Portudal, Senegal, between 4-18 January 2013. QRV 80-10m, mainly CW. If
possible
he also hopes to be active on 160m with an Inverted L. QSL via F6BLP,

LOOKING AHEAD -
07/01/2013: Bertrand, DF3ZS and Thomas, DL1QW will be QRV holiday-style
from
Diani Beach, Kenya, between 7-20 January 2013. Activity on 80m to 10m - CW,
SSB
and RTTY using dipoles, GP and vertical loops. QSL via home calls, direct
or via

20/01/2013: Look for Dennis, WA2USA to be active as WA2USA/4 from St.
George
island (NA-085, USi FL0076S), Franklin county, Florida, between 20 January
and
27 February 2013. He also plans to operate from the lighthouse (ARLHS
USA-1057,
WLOTA 3178) while he is on the island. QRV mostly CW on 30, 20 and 15
metres.
Some SSB on 40 and 20 metres. All bands in ARRL International DX CW
Contest
(16-17 February) and the NAQP RTTY Contest (23-24 February). QSL via home

20/02/2013: Werner, DJ9KH, will be active from Vava'u island (OC-064),
Kingdom
of Tonga, as A31WH between 20 February and 3 March 2013. Comments: will
activate

01/03/2013: Special event station 8J6ISG will be active on all bands and
modes
between 1 March and 30 April 2013 to celebrate the opening of the New
Ishigaki
Airport. (ISG is the IATA - International Air Transport Association
airport
code). The new airport will be located to the east of Ishigaki (JCC
4704),
Ishigaki Island (AS-024, WLOTA 0134), Yaeyama Islands, Okinawa
prefecture,
Japan. The new airport is supposed to have a 2,000m (6,562 ft)
runway,
expandable to 2,500m (8,202 ft). Construction started in October 2006,
for
completion by 2013, and is scheduled to open on 7 March. QSL via the

modes during the month of January 2013 to celebrate the 30th anniversary of

01/01/2013: Throughout 2013 Irish families and clans will be coming
together in
thousands of events, both on the island and around the globe, to celebrate
their
history and heritage in a unique event called 'The Gathering'. Irish
amateur
radio stations, North and South, will be participating and all

throughout the world, whether they have some green Irish blood or not,
are
invited to join in the celebrations. The special event callsign EI13CLAN

active throughout the year and there will be a variety of awards and
other

Brave Radio Friends: Radio Activity Award January 2013 -
The award is sponsored by BRAVE RADIO FRIENDS and can be applied for by
amateur
radio stations or short wave listeners. The rules are simple: In January
2013
work (OP)or hear (SWL) as many DXCC-entities as possible. No band or
mode
restricitions. All entities count only once, regardless of band or mode.
For the
award a minimum of 20 DXCC-entities is required. The number of DXCC
entities
worked/heard will be entered in the award.
Application with log extract (please pdf, doc, xls or jpg). Deadline of

application is February 28, 2013.
You can only apply for a pdf-version of the award and there is no

LU6W - Escondida Island SA-036 -
UPDATE: Cezar and Johan have received their LU licences, valid until
January 10,
2013. The boat rental has been confirmed, and all camping and power
equipment
has been purchased or rented. Food and water supplies will be purchased
after
the team gathers in Puerto Madryn. Landing on Escondida will require
some
swimming, so all the team members will were wet suits.
LU6W (lu6w.yolasite.com/) hopes to be operating between Jan 2 and 6,
2013.
