eHam.net News – Don’t let the rare measurable snowfalls fool you, it is spring in Indiana and severe weather is on the horizon. Members of the Montgomery County Emergency Management Office, Community Emergency Response Team and the National Weather Service are looking for volunteers to become trained storm spotters. The free training class will be offered at 6:30 p.m. April 16 at the EMA Operation Center, 1201 E. Elmore St. Brian Campbell, local assistant EMA director, said storm spotters are important to the area’s safety and overall emergency response. “We want our storm spotters to stay safe and we do not encourage them to go into harms way,” Campbell said. “We have the local ham radio group who will go to particular locations and we do rely on them to be our mobile eyes. We can then use them to help us in the areas that might be damaged from a tornado to get information to EMA, so we can relay info to our emergency responders.”
