Rodeo coming

The Darrington Timberbowl Rodeo will be held this coming Saturday and Sunday. The family friendly event has been a community favorite since 1962. Advance tickets are $9 for adults, $6 for seniors, youth and military. Entry is free for kids up to age 6. Prices are $1 higher at the gate. The rodeo grounds are at 42109 Highway 530.

Learn about ham radio

The Snohomish County Ham Club holds Amateur Radio Field Day from 11 a.m. Saturday to 11 a.m. Sunday at Harborview Park, 1621 W Mukilteo Blvd., Everett. Learn more about amateur radio, which operates independent of the internet and cellphone towers but can work with tablets or smartphones and be set up almost anywhere in minutes. Get information about how to become licensed.

Skateboard races

Sk8 Lake Tye is set for 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. July 1 at Lake Tye Park, 14964 Fryelands Blvd., Monroe. The top prize is $1,000. All ages are welcome. Races include a 200-meter dash and races of 1.5 miles and 3 miles. There also will be gear giveaways, food, music, vendors and a kombucha garden. Tickets are $10, $8 for kids and seniors.

Alzheimer’s group open house

The Alzheimer’s Association Washington State Chapter is hosting an open house and grand opening celebration June 26 at its new location at 19031 33rd Ave. W, Suite 300, Lynnwood. Open house hours are from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 4:45 p.m. RSVP is requested, online at lynnwood.bpt.me. Take a tour, meet staff and learn more about the group’s work.

Teen scavenger hunt

Teens are invited to kick off summer break with a scavenger hunt. Meet at 1 p.m. June 25 at the Edmonds Library, 650 Main St., to get a list of clues and activities. Work alone or in groups of up to four people. There will be snacks and prizes. Each team needs a digital camera. For middle and high school students age 12 to 18. Registration is required at sno-isle.org/events.

OPPORTUNITIES

Host an exchange student

Host families are being sought for Japanese high school students participating in a summer exchange through Everett Community College. The students are from Iwakuni, which is Everett’s sister city. The dates are July 21 to Aug. 4. Volunteers also are needed for other tasks, such as driving.
