TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) — The Tallahassee Amateur Radio Society taking part in the annual Field Day event to help with emergency preparedness.
The event starting Saturday at Tom Brown Park. Dozens of people gathered for the session on setting up a radio and learning to broadcast on it.
This helps keep them as prepared as possible for if emergency strikes, organizers said.
“When the hurricane breezes through our area, people lost cell phone service and electricity. Our local repeaters were on the air and our ham club members maintained contact with each other throughout the storm,” said Tallahassee Amateur Radio Society President Phil Fusilier.
The group will remain there for at least 24 hours, that’s how long the contest runs. The event ends at 2 p.m. Sunday.
