22/03/2013: Look for Alan VK4WR as E6RQ and Graeme VK4FI as E6SG to be active
from Niue Island (OC-040, WLOTA 2139, Grid Loc. AH50) between 22-29 March 2013.
Focus on 50MHz plus some HF operating. QSL both calls via VK4FI. [DX World]

23/03/2013: Look for Jose, CE8DMT, to be active again from Puerto Williams,
Isla Navarino (SA-050, DICE ICE-901, WAP CHL-13, WW Loc. FD65EB), 23rd and 24th
of March 2013. The island forms part of the Commune of Cabo de Hornos, the
southernmost commune in Chile and in the world, belonging to Antartica Chilena
Province. Jose will operate according to the following schedule: 15M (21.277 @
13:30 to 15:30 UTC) and 10M (28.477 @ 16:00 to 17:00 UTC). Jose uses a 3 element

23/03/2013: Patrick, F8DYD/p, will activate, on 23 March 2013, the Mill
Bourreau (DMF 86-057) and the Castle of Piloue (DFCF 86-069, WW Loc. JN06BP)
starting 0830z on 80 and 40 metres. The mill and castle are located in the
commune de Chire en Montreuil (CP 86190), canton of Vouille (DDCF 86-29),
department Vienne/86 and region Poitou-Charentes (DPF 19). QSL via home call,

23/03/2013: Members of Radio Club Ushuaia (LU8XW) will operate as LT5X from
Isla Redonda (SA-049) from around 0000 UTC on 23 March until around 1500 UTC on
the 24th. They plan to run three stations on 80, 40, 20, 25 and 10 metre SSB, CW
and PSK31. QSL via LU8XW. [425 DX News]

23/03/2013: Rich DK8YY, Detlef DL3ALI and Ingolf DL4JS plan activity from the
Hideaway Guesthouse, Fongafale islet, Funafuti atoll, Tuvalu islands (OC-015)
between 23 March and 4 April 2013. They have requested the callsign T2YY, with
confirmation on their arrival. Operating two stations with amps, using a Hexbeam
for HF and verticals for 80m to 30m, they may also try 160m if possible.

23/03/2013: Between 23rd March and 3rd April 2013, Tevfik Aydin, TA1HZ will be
travelling to Mogadishu, Somalia, on a humanitarian mission with Yeryuzu
Doktorlari (https://yyd.org.tr/). It will be a solo DXpedition within a
humanitarian effort and he will be doing his primary job as a doctor. In his
spare time he will be on all HF bands, depending on band conditions, most
probably as T5TC (callsign not yet assigned). He will be using a Kenwood TS-480
with a Windom antenna. QSL cards will be printed late May. QSL via TA1HZ, with

23/03/2013: Corsica IOTA Expedition by the Invoker Team - Vincent F4BKV, Gil
F4FET, Christian EA3NT and Laurent TK4LS will be active between 23rd to 28th
March 2013 from the following Corsican IOTAs: Ile de Maestro Maria (EU-100, DIFM
TK-032, MIA MCO-017, WWFF FFF-945 WW Loc. JN41QN) as TK0INT on 23rd and 26th
March. Ile Grande Sanguinaire (EU-104, DIFM TK-002, MIA MCO-022, DPLF PB176,
ARLHS COR-003, WLOTA 0098, WW Loc. JN41HV) as TK1INT on 24-25th March. Ile San
Cipriano (EU-164, DIFM TK-037, MIA MCO-013, WWFF FFF-253) and Ile de Lavezzi
(EU-164, DIFM TK-011, MIA MCO-007, WWFF FFF-068, WLOTA 0755) as TK2INT on
27-28th March. Activity will be limited to daytime only with up to 3 stations.

24/03/2013: Olivier, ON4EI, will once again be active as EI8GQB from Fethard,
Ireland (EU-115, WLOTA 2484), between 24 March until 3 April, 2013 using an
hybrid wind-solar power system (see www.qrz.com/db/EI8GQB) from his caravan. He
will participate in the CQWW WPX SSB Contest as EI1A. QSL for both callsigns via

24/03/2013: Graham, MM0GHM, will be active mobile as MM0GHM/m from the isle of
Barra (IOSA OH11, SCOTIA HI02, WLOTA 3126), Outer Hebrides (EU-010), between

25/03/2013: To celebrate his 62 year Birthday and 47 years on the air, Dov
4Z4DX plans to activate the following Flora and Fauna locations between 25-27
March 2013: Kursi Holyland (WWFF 4XFF-024, Holyland square O-06-HG); Park
Hayarden (WWFF 4XFF-029, Holyland square N-05-KT); and Mount Hermon (WWFF

25/03/2013: Look for Gennady R0FA and Yuri RA0FU to be active as KH0/homecalls
from the Saipan Rental Shack, island of Saipan (USi NI002S, WLOTA 1333),
Northern Mariana Islands (OC-086) between 25 March and 4 April 2013. QRV on all
HF bands and modes, including an entry in the CQWW WPX SSB Contest (30-31

25/03/2013: Markus, DJ4EL, plans to be active as SV8/DJ4EL from both the
islands of Proti (GIOTA INS-013, MIA MG-092, WLOTA 4036) and Sapientza (GIOTA
INS-011, MIA MG-101, WLOTA 1471), in the EU-158 IOTA group, between 25-29 March,
2013. QRV using battery power on 15m only (simple quad antenna) he hopes to make
1000 or more contacts. Plans are to activate Proti from 25-26 March and

26/03/2013: Jacek, SP5EAQ, will be QRV as A3EAQ from Tongatapu island (OC-049),
in the Kingdom of Tonga, from the 26th March to the 16th April 2013. QSL via
home call (direct or bureau). He will be active on SSB only on all bands 80-10

26/03/2013: Frank, PA4N and Dervin, PD9DX will be active from Ilha de Sao
Miguel (DIP AZ-002, PIP AC-002, WLOTA 2016), Azores (EU-003) as CT8/PA4N and
CS8/PD9DX between 26 March and 3 April 2013. They will be QRV on all HF bands,
SSB and CW. Dervin will participate in the CQWW WPX SSB Contest (30-31 March) as
a Single-Op/All-Band/Low-Power entry. Rigs will be a Kenwood TS590 and an
Elecraft K3. Power will be 100W for both radios. Antennas will consist of a
multiband doublet (inverted vee-style), a multiband vertical and an FD4
off-center fed antenna. As they will be on the west side of the Sete Cidades
volcanic mountain, propagation to the Americas will be much easier than
propagation to Europe and Asia. QSL CT8/PA4N via home call, bureau preferred or

26/03/2013: On 26th and 27th March 2013 Tana, E27EK, plans to be QRV from Chang
Island (AS-125), Thailand, as E27EK/p on all HF bands. QSL via home call,

26/03/2013: Helmut, DF7ZS, will once again be active from the P49V QTH (Cook's
Radio Retreat), Oranjestad, island of Aruba (SA-036, WLOTA 0033, WW Loc. FK42XN)
between 26th March and 3rd April 2013. QRV as P40Z on the WARC bands is planned.
The main focus of his trip is a Single-Op/All-Band entry in the CQWW WPX SSB

26/03/2013: Hartwig, DL7BC, will once again be active from Mayotte island
(AF-027, DIFO FH-001, WLOTA 0376, WW Loc. LH27NF) between 26 March and 12 April,
2013. Until 9 April he will be QRV as TO7BC (including an entry in the CQWW WPX
SSB Contest), after that he might operate as FH/DL7BC. This time Hartwig hopes

27/03/2013: Victor, R6AF, will be operating from the island of Busuanga (IOTA
OC-090, Grid Loc. PK02), Palawan province, Philippines, using the callsign
DU1/R6AF. The planned dates are 27th April until 3rd May, 2013. QRV on the HF

27/03/2013: Look for Richard, M5RIC, to be active from the Isle of Jersey
(EU-013, WLOTA 0818) as MJ5RIC from 27-31 March 2013. This will include a
Single-Op entry in the CQWW WPX SSB Contest (30-31 March), using the callsign
MJ2Z. QSL both callsigns via M5RIC, direct or bureau. [NG3K]

28/03/2013: Joe, K5KUA, will return to Galveston Island (NA-143, USi TX001S),
Galveston county, Texas, between 28th March and 1st April 2013. QRV as K5KUA/5
on 80-10 metres, mainly CW and the digital modes. QSL via home call, direct or

28/03/2013: Steve, W1SRD and Dean, N6DE will be active from the island of
Bonaire (SA-006, WLOTA 1279, WWFF PAFF-024), including an entry in the CQWW WPX
SSB Contest (30-31 March). QRV before and after the contest as as PJ4/homecall
on all bands, with forcus on RTTY. QSL via home calls. PJ4-contest call (TBA)

28/03/2013: Hajar, YB8HZ and Ram, YB8BRI plan to be active from the island of
Balang Lompo (OC-236) as homecall/p between 28-31 March, 2013. Pulau
Balang-lompo is located in the Regency of the Pangkajene Islands, Province of
South Sulawesi, Indonsesia. Plans are to be QRV on all HF bands and modes,

29/03/2013: Kei KG2A (also JJ1RJR / T88RJ) will be QRV as KG2A/VP9 from
Hamilton Parish, island of Bermuda (NA-005) between 29 March and 1 April,
including an entry in the CQWW WPX SSB Contest. Outside the contest Kei will try
to be active on the HF bands, mainly CW. QSL via KG2A, direct (QRZ.com). [NG3K]

29/03/2013: Operators Masa W6LJ, Ryuji (Rio) NY8A, Aki W3JH, Masaru AI2K and
Masa AH6KY will be active as NH2KY on all HF bands and modes from Barrigada,
Guam (OC-026, USi GU003S, WFF KFF-110, WLOTA 0064) between 29 March and 2 April
2013. This will include a Multi-2 entry from CQ zone 27 in the CQWW WPX SSB

30/03/2013: Dean, 8P6SH, will once again activate his contest callsign 8P2K for
the CQWW WPX SSB Contest (30-31 March) from Ocean City, St. Philip parish,
island of Barbados (NA-021). Plans are for a Single-Op/Single-Band (10m) entry.

30/03/2013: Steve, 9M6DXX, will be operating holiday style as XW8XZ from near
Vientiane, Laos, between 30 March and 3 April 2013. Activity will be SSB only,
using 100 watts (the maximum power permitted by the licence) to a Butternut
HF6V-X antenna with 12/17m kit. QSL via M0URX, by OQRS (see www.m0urx.com/oqrs),
direct, or via the bureau. Logs will be uploaded to LoTW as quickly as possible

03/05/2013: Bruce, ZL1AAO, will be active from the island of Rarotonga (OC-013,
WW Loc. BG08DR), South Cook Islands as E51AAO between 3-14 May, 2013. Operating
holiday style (SSB only, 100w) look for him on 40-10m with homebrew wire
antennas. QSL via home call, direct or bureau. Log will be uploaded to LoTW and

07/05/2013: Tony, ZL2AGY, plans to return to Rarotonga (OC-013), South Cook
Islands, and will be active as E51AGY from 7th May 2013 for approx 24 days. This
will be a CW only operation running a K3 barefoot, and may include some activity
in the CQWW WPX CW Contest during the last weekend of May. QSL via home call,

18/05/2013: A non-stop castle activity for the Belgium Castle Award is planned
on Saturday 18 May 12:00 UTC till Monday 20 May 14:00 UTC 2013. Members of UBA
section ODE will activate Castle De Ghellinck (BCA OV-032, WCA ON-00364) on all
HF bands SSB and CW, also on 2m FM, using the call OT7G/p. The castle located in
Elsegem (WW Loc. JO10ST), Oost Vlaanderen province, goes back to the 16th
century and became the property of the family De Ghellinck around 1718. Although
the castle was surrounded with water, it was not really fortified. As so many
castles, it was pillaged during the French revolution. In the 19th century there
have been many structural alterations. During both World Wars there was a lot of
damage. After the Second World War the castle wasn't used any more and in 1973
the whole building burned down. The community of Wortegem Petegem obtained the
castle and the park. The remaining buildings are being restored, but financial

23/05/2013: Henning, OZ1BII, will be active as XP2I from the Club and Contest
station, Kangerlussuaq (Sonderstrom), Greenland (NA-018, WLOTA 0072, WWFF
OZFF-006, WW Loc. GP47PA) from 23-27 May 2013. This will include a
Single-Op/Low-Power entry in the CQWW WPX CW Contest (25-26 May). QRV on the HF

22/06/2013: Rico, DO6EBB, will once again be active holiday style as OZ/DO6EBB
from Fano island (EU-125, DIA NS-002, WWFF OZFF-004, Grid Loc. JO45) between 22
June and 7 July, 2013. He plans to be QRV 160-2 metre SSB, with some Digimodes.

12/07/2013: David, K0DCH, plans to activate Mitkof island (NA-041, USi AK155S,
WLOTA 2115) as K0DCH/KL7 from 12-16 July, 2013. QRV on or near the usual island

27/10/2013: Tom, OE2ATN and Franz, OE2SNL have planned a suitcase DXpedition to
Grenville, St. Andrew parish, island of Grenada (J3, NA-024, WLOTA 0718) from
27th October until 10th November, 2013. Callsigns not yet known. They will be
QRV on the HF bands using CW, SSB and RTTY, with 100-200 watts. Please note they
are a 2-man-show and have not the resources to be on the air on more than one
band and one mode at a time. Equipment: 1x Kenwood TS-480HX, 1x Elecraft KX3,
probably 1x Elecraft KXPA100, Tuner MFJ 994BRT and G5RV antenna. QSL direct to

22/03/2013: "The Factory 1944" organized the 2nd "Meeting of Historical Means
of the II World War". The special callsign II0FTC will be on the air in CW and

22/03/2013: Milos, S53EO, celebrates his golden ham radio jubilee with the
special callsign S503EO until 15 June 2013 from Portoroz, Slovenia. He's QRV on

24/03/2013: Special event station GB1CMR will be celebrating 35 years of
Clansman Military Radio being in service. The event will take place on Saturday
23rd March 2013 from Suvla Barracks in Hereford, England (EU-005, WLOTA 1841),
10.00-17.00 UTC, with proceeds going to Help for Heroes Charity. They will be
operating from the turn of Midnight on the Friday with most activity predicted
on 40m but 20m, 15m and 10m CW, SSB will be covered as well conditions
permitting especially throughout the Saturday. QSL via M0XIG, bureau preferred.

24/03/2013: Special event station GB5CT will be active at Chalbury in Dorset,
England (EU-005, WLOTA 1841, WAB SU00, WW Loc. IO90AU) to commemorate over 200
years of the Admiralty Shutter Telegraph. The event will be operated from
0900hrs Sunday 24th March until 2000hrs Friday 29th March 2013. The operator for
this event is John Wakefield, M0XIG, and all direct QSL's should be sent to:

INTERNATIONAL MARCONI DAY -
Organized by the Cornish Radio Amateur Club, the International Marconi Day (IMD)
is a 24-hour amateur radio event held annually to celebrate the birth of
Guglielmo Marconi (25 April 1874). It is not a contest, but an opportunity for
amateurs around the world to make contacts with historic Marconi sites using HF
communications techniques. This year's event will be held on 20 April, from
00.00 UTC through 23.59 UTC. Details, including information on the relevant Awar
d Certificates and the listing of participating stations, can be found at

T2GM will QRT at 04:00Z on Friday, March 22nd. [DX World]

XE1L, Luis Chartarifsky, died of a major heart attack earlier this week. He was
69. Luis had just returned from the TX5K Clipperton Island DXpedition earlier
this month. He was known around the world with his wonderful smile and friendly
attitude. XE1L had 338/352 (current/total) confirmed in the ARRL DXCC Mixed
standings. "Luis was a major DXpeditioner (see his qrz.com page) and a true
gentleman" remembers G3SXW, Roger Western. Aside from being a DXer, Contester
and a DXpeditioner Luis enjoyed traveling and as such was part of many
DXpeditions, including: 3Y0PI, 9M0M, 9N7MD, S07L, TX5K, TZ6RM, W4T (NA-079),
XF4L, XR0Y, XR0Z and XZ0A just to name a few. Luis was by no surprise a member
of the A-1 Operators Club. Many who have attended Dayton, and I am sure other
events, have photos of Luis with his always pleasant outlook of life. Mexico
and the Amateur Radio community have lost a wonder friend.
