REALTIME BAND CONDITIONS WEB SITE <http://www.bandconditions.com>:
The purpose of this experimental Web site is to provide 24-7-365
actual
(REALTIME) band condition information to CW QRPp, QRPe and CW/SSB
for
Contesters interested in increasing their scores. It can also be of
benefit to other Radio Amateurs to determine band conditions for
Nets
and casual QSO's. This information is NOT based on any software
pre-
dictions or any kind of satellite based readings. It is based on a
new Ionospheric sounding method called "HF Ionospheric
Interferometry"
which operates very similarly to the PolSAR system used by
NASA.

SILENT KEY. Don, K8MFO, informs OPDX that Vic Crawford, W1TYQ
(HZ3TYQ,
ex-W8NUV), from Michigan, became a Silent Key (SK) on November 8th,
at
the age of 94. He served as an ARRL Connecticut Section
Communications
Manager (SCM) between 1957-1960, but Vic was well known as HZ3TYQ
(1963-
1976) and made two DXpeditions each into the Iraqi and Kuwaiti
Neutral
zones, 8Z4 and 8Z5. Earlier he initiated an operation from the Saudi-
Kuwait neutral zone as 9K3TL/NZ with Jack Laub/HB9TL, Roy
Fleming/MP4BBD
and L.M. "Rundy" Rundlett/W3ZA/K4ZA in about 1963. Vic retired to
Torch
Lake, Michigan, as W1TYQ/8 with particular interest in 80 meters
where
he proceeded to rack up almost 300 countries. Vic also operated a
good
deal from HZ1AB, back in the "Hot Ziggety One American Boy" heyday.
He
was also an aviator, and was a key man in the development of aviation
at the Arabian American Oil Company. Vic was known world-wide for his
impeccable CW and top notch operating. OPDX and its readers would
like
to send out our deepest sympathy to the family and friends of
W1TYQ.
SV/A, MOUNT ATHOS. Monk Apollo, SV2ASP/A, was heard early Sunday
morning
(1415z+/-) on 10 meters RTTY (around 28091 kHz). QSL via

and March 1st. Activity will be on 160-6 meters (incl. 60m) using
SSB.
Equipment is a Kenwood TS-590S and Elecraft KPA500 Amplifier.

include: a 80-10m Multi-band Dipole, 40-10m 31 ft. Verticals, 35 ft.
40/80m Top Loaded Vertical, and shortened 160m Dipole. Also, a 3
element
Yagi for 6m. Also, XYL Cathy, W5HAM, will occasionally operate as
V47HAM.
ALL QSLs go to W5JON direct only or via LoTW. NO Bureau QSLs.

and
December 1st. Activity will be "holiday-style" using a single station
with 100w and a Buddipole antenna system directly adjacent to the
sea.
Operations will be on all bands 40-10 meters (including 30/17/12m),
and
all modes (CW/SSB/RTTY). They expect to have Internet access, and
plan
to upload logs to ClubLog daily. You can check your QSO status and
request
a QSL card via the Online QSL Request System (OQRS). Direct QSLs are
via
their home callsign (see QRZ.com for details).
VP2V, BRITISH VIRGIN ISLANDS. Kevin, K6TOP, will once again be active
as VP2V/K6TOP from Tortola, British Virgin Islands (NA-023) until

log
will be uploaded upon return. Kevin states, "When the pileups get
difficult,
I listen to the edges, so please spread your calls out."
VR, HONG KONG. Andrea, IV3SKB, has been active from Peng Chau Island
(AS-006) since October 24th and will stay until December 3rd. Look

YV0, AVES ISLAND (Jumping The Gun!)[If you missed OPDX.88.1]. Minutes
after going to print about the Aves Island DXpedition in OPDX.1188,
the
information was taken down off the Web. Edwin, YV5EN, apologized to
OPDX
and the DX community for the info and states he was "testing the
YV0AI
QRZ.com page. It was on the Web just about 3 minutes just for testing
purposes. Now I'm testing the page in a personal domain which is very
different than the QRZ.com. There is no official info at this time
and
no specific date known, but the Radio Club Venezolano is working very
hard on it. Hope YV0 will be soon on the air, but it depends on
Venezuelan
Navy. Now that everybody knows the callsign, please feel free to
visit
QRZ.com for any news. Sorry again if those 3 minutes of Web testing
makes
all the Ham community feel so angry or sad. Again, it was just 3
minutes
for testing purposes...."
