FOR IMMEDIATE PUBLICATION -
NCDXF announces major grant to the VK0EK Heard Island DXpedition
April 2, 2015
The Northern California DX Foundation is pleased to announce a grant of $50,000 to the VK0EK Heard Island DXpedition planned for November 2015. Heard Island has moved up to the #5 position on the ClubLog Most Wanted List, after the recent Navassa operation.
Without major financial support from NCDXF, DXpeditions like this to challenging or rare locations would not be possible.
Within the last year, NCDXF has given $175,000 in grants to operations in Iran, Andaman, Navassa, Eritrea, South Sandwich, South Georgia, Chesterfield, Heard and to a yet unannounced DXpedition, all of which are in or near the Top Ten Most Wanted.
We have been doing this for the past 42 years, making rare DX happen and bringing fun to DXers everywhere. The credit for these large grants goes to the NCDXF contributors, individuals and clubs, who believe in supporting NCDXF.
In the next few weeks and months, please stop by the NCDXF booths at Visalia, Dayton, and other major DX meetings. Our board members are looking forward to meeting you and thanking you for your support!
Have you contributed yet?

NAQCC Central Texas Chapter Participating in Parks Event -
The Central Texas Chapter will be participating in the Texas State Parks On The Air contest next Saturday the 4th of April.
As I stated in the last newsletter, this will be a "Divide & Conquer" or as Texas Patriots said, for the Battle of Gonzales "Come and take it" event for the Central Texas Chapter.
Joe, K5BRY # 6666, will be operating from The South Llano River State Park, and Larry, WB5BEK # 7534, Lester, WD4IFU #7676, Chris KD5GIK, and myself N5DRG, #5861, will be operating from Seminole Canyon State Park. Just a nice easy drive. About 150 miles for K5BRY, and 300 miles for Larry, Chris, Lester, and I.
Operating Frequencies will be normal QRP frequencies. 7.040, 7.030, and The Central Texas Chapters weekly CW net operating frequency of 7.065MHz. all of these are + or - due to the other contest that are scheduled for that weekend per the ARRL Contest Calendar.
If you have any questions please contact Danny Goodrum, N5DRG.

ND0S NORTH DAKOTA QSO PARTY -
The North Dakota QSO Party will be held on April 18-19, 2015. N0ND will be active as ND0S from Slope County, ND. Very Rare, no HF hams are licensed in the county. See W0ND web site (www.w0nd.com/) for rules and times.
US ISLANDS ONE-DAY GETWAY -
Hams Hit the Water for the new US Islands Awards Program's "One-Day Getaway" - Saturday, May 9, 2015 (0000-2359z).
Fans of portable ham radio are encouraged to grab their equipment and head for the water as part of the new "One-Day Getaway," sponsored by the US Islands awards program. The annual event will make its debut on Saturday, May 9, 2015, from 0000 UTC through 2359 UTC (Friday evening to Saturday evening in the continental US).
Founded in 1994, US Islands promotes portable ham radio operations from islands found in all bodies of water: lakes, rivers, streams, ponds, and coastal islands in US territorial waters. The One-Day Getaway is an on-air activity, not a contest: no scores are tallied and no prizes are awarded. Participation from all radio amateurs, regardless of experience level, is encouraged.
"US Islands is a great way to go on a mini-DXpedition without spending a lot of money," said US Islands Awards Manager Jay Chamberlain, NS4J. "Discovering islands in your own back yard and setting up a station outdoors is always a good time. If hams have only operated outdoors during Field Day, we offer another route to get outside and enjoy portable ham radio in a different way."
Contacts can be made with any station; US Islands offers achievement awards for both island activators and island chasers, including a certificate for your first US Islands activation.
While there are over 2,800 islands on the US Islands list, there are more than 17,000 islands within the United States. Participants can use Google Earth to locate new islands and be the first to operate ham radio from that location!
Complete information on the US Islands Program, a how-to guide for One-Day Getaway participants and a list of currently qualified islands is available at: www.usislands.org/ [USi]
