BOYNTON BEACH -- A group of middle school students from Palm Beach County worked together to send a high altitude balloon with a camera attached soaring through 99 percent of the earth's atmosphere to capture an image of planet from what scientists call "near-space," or the stratosphere. After almost two hours of ascending, the helium-filled balloon they launched from Caloosa Park in Boynton Beach reached an altitude of 112,000 feet, or about 22 miles, the group's instructor Andres Paris said. The video they gathered shows a faint curvature of the earth, and if it had been taken on a cloudless day, would have shown Florida, Georgia, Cuba and the Bahamas.
