After many years of having my Extra license, I’m finally in a position to start getting onto HF. I don’t really have an elmer to guide me, so pardon the “dumb” questions.
I’m in an HOA development, so discretion is necessary. I ordered a 44′ End Fed antenna to get me started. In the photos at the below links, there is a birds-eye view of my house. The left corner of the house has an older satellite dish that is no longer used (red circle), but I was planning on using it as an anchor point for the feed end of the antenna. Middle(ish) of the roof is a bathroom vent pipe (PVC) that I was considering using as a mid point to keep the antenna suspended above the roof.
I’m planning on using a mast mount on the other side of the house as well, but I’m just going to stick in a 1.25″ wooden dowel in the mast mount, painted white to disguise it better. My question is this, am I OK to put a slight “V” in the antenna and run the antenna back toward the rear of the house (and much better disguised), or should I run it in a straight line toward the peak of the house, and be more exposed to the wandering eyes? I thought I read somewhere that end fed antennas should be as straight as possible, and any bends should be a minimum of 90°. Thanks for the advice!
