BITS & PIECES -
ANTARCTIC ACTIVITY WEEK 2015 -
It's time to think to join the 12th AAW, to apply for Special event
callsign and get ready to be virtually in Antarctica among the thousands of
personnel and researchers who are working down in the Icy Continent.
1) 12th AAW IN FEBRUARY.
Look for the 12th Antarctic Activity Week (AAW) to take place between
February 16-22th (2015). This event is promoted by Worldwide Antarctic Program
(WAP) <http://www.waponline.it> each year to improve the
world-wide attention about the Antarctic Continent and its related matters, with
the aim of staying close to the researchers and personnel who are spending their
time away from home and families, studying the Antarctic life and its secrets in
the so many remote scientific stations in this icy continent. The WAP is also
thankful for what the Nations and Research Foundations are doing to protect this
still uncontaminated corner of the planet and to share a message of peace among
the world. The AAW is a unique event world-wide where Hams (in any corners of
the world) sign up and help promote the special attention given to the
Antarctica. This worldwide event is open to all radio amateurs wishing to join
them using a special callsign which help promote the Antarctica.
All SES with a WAP reference number will qualify for WAP ASEA (Antarctic
Special events Award). The WAP Ref. number for any special callsign
requested/issued for this occurrence can be provided upon request by sending an
E-mail to I1HYW (QRZ.com). The list of participants is still open and is
available at: http://www.waponline.it/AntarcticActivityWeek/tabid/113/Default.aspx
2) How may I register my station for the 12th AAW ?
To enter the AAW, it's necessary to have a Special callsign (not the home
call) issued to celebrate the event, or a home callsign /AAW, or /ANT, or /WAP,
or /A which stands for Antarctica. To any Special Event callsign will be given a
WAP reference number to be used during the event.
The applicants should get, in any case, an authorization to eventually use
his own callsign /ANT or /A etc., since just a pure own call is not a special
event call, but a classic home call which could not be given a WAP reference
number. Participation is open; hunters have to contact as many as AAW SES,
which WAP reference number can be used when applying for WAP Antarctic Awards
according to the Award's rules.
3) Antarctica Activity February 2015 Award by BRF (Brave Radio
Friends)
Hans DE3EAR informs that BRF has planning an Antarctica Activity Award for
February 2015 again. Here are the rules for Antarctica Activity Award February
2015.
The award is open to OP and SWL. In February 2015 work or hear as many
stations with a WAP number as possible. For the award a minimum of 5
WAP-stations is required. There are no band or mode restrictions. Application
with log extract. (No QSLs necessary). The award is available only as a pdf and
there is no award fee. Apply via e-mail to de3ear[AT]darc.de . Deadline for
application is March 31, 2015.
