LINCOLN -- They're grainy and hard to decipher, but they came from space so that's easy to be forgiven. July marked the 20th anniversary of Amateur Radio on the International Space Station (ARISS), a volunteer-run, international organization that encourages children to take an interest in science, technology, engineering and math, the so-called STEM subjects. To celebrate the 20th anniversary, radio operators on board the International Space Station sent images back to earth that operators on Terra Firma could receive. The images, 12 in total, represented some of the achievements and accomplishments of the ARISS project over the past two decades. Beamsville resident Rob Quinlan was lucky, and skilled, enough to receive some of the images at his home. "What I did was I just left the computer and radio running all night so in the morning I could see if I was able to get anything and, whoa! I was really impressed," he said in an email.
