RTTY Net?

Just throwing this out there. But would any one be interested in a RTTY Net. It would be a net for people the use tty machines or computer.

I know some people that like to use an actual machine. But lately on the RTTY arias it send out your macros and move on. Not much fun utilizing and actual tty machine.

Ft-60r Tone settings…

I just got an FT-60r that I’m trying to setup with some local repeaters.

Overall different sites seem to have different information. Some show you the in and out frequencies, while other just the + or – shift.

In addition I noticed that some of this have a TONE setting requirement. I was able to figure out how to add that to the memory as well, yet I’m yet to find a way to deal with the repeaters that require two tones IN/OUT. Does anyone know how can I save that info inside the FT-60r? The programming software only seems to have a CTCSS tone column and I don’t see a way to input the OUT one…. may be I’m missing something…

Torroid Wrapping schematic confusion

Hi guys and gals, I am working on expanding my gear and upgrading license to allow more bands which involves buying a couple kits to learn and play with. I bought an ATU kit, however I am hitting a block on the torroid wrapping info on the schematic:

Schematic: http://ift.tt/2fTkY06 (confusing part is circled on the breakout and main schematic). This core goes into a 12-choice switch via the taps

I watched a youtube video or two and also have looked online about this. They all mention the 12 different “legs”. But I see this arrow on the diagram and never seen that before on a schematic.. Can anyone help me decipher it? (Around 3 2 4 turn area).. I otherwise understood most of the schematic, but when getting to the torroid I am hitting a block, the smaller one from the SWR meter component is obvious..

Am I correct in thinking to wrap as normal, and just do each turn # and then leg and then its saying other end goes to GND. Or do I switch directions? The instructions say follow schematic.. and the videos have not shown or mentioned the complete process of turning.

Thanks for the help!! I go for my upgrade this coming Sat, and am ready to get on my new QRP rigs and face the challenge of low power comms once I get this figured out and my antenna built!

Police scanner recommendations – Will it work in my area?

Not sure if this is the correct subreddit for this question so please let me know.

I’m looking for a Police scanner to add to the current mobile rig in my truck.

I was looking at the Uniden Beartracker BCT15X (http://ift.tt/2fTdY3v)

Problem is, I’m not sure if it’ll pick up my local police frequencies.

Members of the ‘Battleship Iowa Amateur Radio Association‘ (BIARA) will be active as NI6BB between 1600-2359z on Wednesday, December 7th, in memory of the 75th anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor in 1941.

The ship’s circa 1980’s legacy gear will be manned by the “Gray Radio Gang” on 40 meters SSB from approximately 1800-2300z.

Operations are planned to be on 7241 kHz and as the transmitters are on deck 3 and the receivers are on the main deck, QSYing to tweek you in is nearly impossible.

Please ensure you are on frequency before you call as they cannot easily track you. Understand that there will be a delay between transmit and receive due to the receiver recovery time. The main BIARA team will man both their SSB and CW stations using amateur radio transceivers on 20-10 meters commensurate with conditions.

Suggested frequencies are:
CW – 14041, 18078, 21041, 24896, and /or 28041 kHz
SSB – 14341, 18141, 21441, 24941 and /or 28441 kHz

A DXpedition to Bouvet is not to be taken lightly.

Bouvet is a serious and dangerous place; demanding attention to safety, serious planning, physical and mental endurance, time to allow for storms and rough seas, and a team with the right balance of size, experience, talent, emotional stability, and sense of purpose. We feel we have met these criteria, but when we arrive at Bouvet we also need to attend to our obligations to you, our financial supporters and DX audi- ence. How we meet those obligations and expectations will define us as a team.

It is our belief that, given the rarity of this entity, we must pull out all the stops. We must utilize maximum legal power, the best antennas, world class transceivers, propagation studies, the best location on the island, a safe vessel and crew, highly qualified helicopter pilots, and the complimentary resources of our team. We will need near real time infor- mation flowing to us through our extensive pilot system so that we can maximize our primary purpose — providing QSO’s.

We have a conscience. We will not do this just for the sake of doing it and end up using a compromised location, less than 24/7 coverage of all open bands, limited power, inefficient antennas, and insufficient time at the island. We want to do this right and give everyone the best possible chance of making the QSO’s they desire, be they on 160, the WARC bands, SSB, CW, RTTY, or 6 and 2 meter EME.

Rest assured that we will do our very best for you! No shortcuts or compromises! ………

Clusters Network and VU2CPL for the following DX information.

5T, MAURITANIA. World traveler Vladimir, UA4WHX, is now active as 5T9VB

from Nouakchott. Length of stay is unknown. Activity has been 30/20/17

meters, but could be on other bands later in the week. Modes have been

on CW, SSB and RTTY. QSL via UA4WHX.

VU7, LAKSHADWEEP ISLANDS. Manoj, VU2CPL, informs OPDX that he is planning

to visit Kavaratti Island (AS-011) in the Lakshadweep Islands group [ranked

60th on ClubLog’s most wanted list], along with Siddhu, VU3NXI, between

November 29th and December 2nd. They will be active as VU7MS. Activity

will be holiday style on 40/20/17/15 meters using CW and SSB. They will

be near the IOTA frequencies as much as possible and will be operating

split always. Only one station/operator will be active at a time due to

limitations in logistics (Only a small aircraft can fly to the island and

their baggage allowance is only 15 kg per person). Equipment is an IC-7300

with PA2500 Linear Amplifier. Antennas will be simple verticals at the

beach on spiderpoles from <http://ift.tt/2gvsn5E>. QSL via LoTW or

ClubLog’s OQRS. For paper QSLs, please QSL via VU2CPL (with sufficient
