GS3PYE/P – Camb-Hams 2017 DXPedition to Islay
Another year, another Camb-Hams DX’Pedition to a Scottish Island.
This year the Camb-Hams are going to the Island of Islay. Activity wise the usual bands and modes will be active, such as; HF bands from 80m and 40m through 10m will be covered with 4 or 5 stations, all capable of running the legal power limit. HF antennas include a 20m mono-bander, hexbeam for 20/17/15/12/10, 1/4 verts+dipole on 80m/40m/30m plus many others.
VHF
Covers 6m (with a 6 ele), 4m (with a 7 ele) and 2m (with a 17 ele), all antennas on one mast/rotator. 6m & 2m will be running at 400w, and 4m will be 160w. We will also try EME again (which we’ve found very successful in previous years), but only at moonrise/moonset only.
When operating MS (Meteor Scatter) on VHF, to allow us to have all 3 VHF stations running together, PYE will always run on the 2nd period, and use 15 second periods on all bands (6m, 4m AND 2m), this minimises inter-band interference, otherwise instead of 3 VHF bands being QRV only 1 VHF band will be.
MSK144 is planned to be used mainly on 6m & 4m, with 50.285 & 70.285 being our preferred frequencies. On 2m we will mainly use FSK441 on the preferred frequency of 144.385. Find us on KST.
Satellites
Find us on 2m (2x 5 ele) and 70cm (2x 9 ele) FM and SSB satellites. We might also try some /P satellite operation on the FM sats with an Arrow antenna + 5w HT.
