04/01/2013: Francis, F6BLP, will once again be active as 6W7SK from Saly Portudal, Senegal, between 4-18 January 2013. QRV 80-10m, mainly CW. If possible he also hopes to be active on 160m with an Inverted L. QSL via F6BLP, direct or bureau. Logs will be uploaded to LoTW and eQSL. [DX World]

04/01/2013: Mathieu, MJ0ASP, will be QRV from Madeira Island (AF-014, DIP MA-001, PIP MD-001, WLOTA 0053), as CT9/MJ0ASP from 4-9 January 2013. Activity will be on 40-10 metre CW only. QSL via LotW and home call. [DX World]

04/01/2013: Nao, JA2VQP is teaching mathematics at the Divine Word University in Wewak, East Sepic Province, north coast of PNG main land (OC-034, WLOTA 0084). During December he shipped some radio gear to P.N.G and hopes to be active in the coming months as P29NO. Nao will be staying for two years. [DX World]

07/01/2013: Bertrand, DF3ZS and Thomas, DL1QW will be QRV holiday-style from Diani Beach, Kenya, between 7-20 January 2013. Activity on 80m to 10m - CW, SSB and RTTY using dipoles, GP and vertical loops. QSL via home calls, direct or via the DARC bureau. [DX World]

09/01/2013: Mike JA6EGL, Yas JA6UBY and Yu JE6DND plan to be active as T88SM, T88CP and T88HK, respectively, from Koror Island, Palau (OC-009), from 9-14 January 2013. QRV on 80-10 metre CW and SSB. QSL direct to individual home calls. [DX World]

11/01/2013: Rick 'The Locust', K6VVA, is now scheduled to return to the Bahamas again. This time QRV as C6AVA on North Bimini Island (NA-048) from 11-14 January 2013. As always, this will be a primarily CW activation. Rick may also be QRV in the NAQP CW Contest. "An important note to Italian IOTA Chasers: If I send your callsign correctly the first time, please do NOT repeat your callsign 2 or 3 times as this unnecessarily wastes time. LOOKING AHEAD -



13/01/2013: Christian, F5UII, plans to be active as FY/F5UII from the FY5KE radio-club of Kourou, Guyana, between 13-30 January 2013. He will only trnasmit SSB on weekdays before 12:00z, after 22:00z and when he would be available to operate. Included in this trip will be activity from Salut islands [Ile Royale] (SA-020, WLOTA 0911) on 19th and 20th January. While on Ile Royale, Christian will be QRV with 100w on 40-10m using GPA-030 vertical antenna. QSL via home call, bureau preferred. 25/02/2013: After his trip in Uganda with the F6KOP gang, Gerard F2JD will be back to Copan, located in the Copan Department of western Honduras, from around 25 February 2013 for 3 months. 01/03/2013: Alan, N3AD, will be active from the V26B rental shack located in Saint George Parish, island of Antigua (NA-100, WLOTA 1118, WW Loc. FK97CC) as V26M from 1-3 March 2013. This will include a Single-Op/All-Band entry in the ARRL DX SSB Contest (2-3 March). QSL via home call. [NG3K]

27/03/2013: Look for Richard, M5RIC, to be active from the Isle of Jersey (EU-013, WLOTA 0818) as MJ5RIC from 27-31 March 2013. This will include a Single-Op entry in the CQWW WPX SSB Contest (23-24 March), using the callsign MJ2Z. QSL both callsigns via M5RIC, direct or bureau. [NG3K]

15/08/2013: Craig, VK5CE, is planning his next IOTA DXpedition as homecall/p from Flinders Island (OC-261, WFF VKFF-175) between 15-21 August 2013. "I'm able to set up my antenna right on the beach at the high tide mark, so this is perfect for the use of verticals. My primary antenna will be a SteppIR BigIR vertical with buried radials in the sand to operate on 80-10. Although most of the time I'll be on 40m, 20m and 15m. 04/01/2013: For the 50th anniversary of the French-German Treaty of Friendship (Elysee Treaty) there will be a special station DL50FRANCE on the air during the whole year of 2013, with special DOK 50FRA. This activity is an example for the international understanding which is fostered by amateur radio activities. Horst, DF8VV came up with the idea for this activity, the QSL manager is DK8VR. 04/01/2013: On the occasion of the anniversary of the first official broadcast transmission from the Voxhaus Berlin on 29th October 1923, the Deutsche Amateur Radio Club e.V. Bob K4MZU writes: 1) After my QSO this evening with Richard CE6RC/8 in Puerto Natalas... Mika OJ1ABOA called me. He told me that he plans to be more active this coming week-end.

2) I also talked with BP VU3BPZ/mm 30km from Indian Bay Camp. Later this week he plans to be QRV as VU3BPZ/p from Matri Base 3-4 days and possibly 1 day from Indian Bay Camp.

3) Stella VP8DFM (xyl of Roger VP8DBR) is newly active 14.212 MHz from the Falklands. [K4MZU]

Brave Radio Friends: Radio Activity Award January 2013 -

The award is sponsored by BRAVE RADIO FRIENDS and can be applied for by amateur radio stations or short wave listeners. The rules are simple: In January 2013 work (OP)or hear (SWL) as many DXCC-entities as possible. No band or mode restricitions. All entities count only once, regardless of band or mode. For the award a minimum of 20 DXCC-entities is required. The number of DXCC entities worked/heard will be entered in the award.

Application with log extract (please pdf, doc, xls or jpg). Deadline of the application is February 28, 2013.

You can only apply for a pdf-version of the award and there is no fee.

Morse Code as UNESCO Intangible cultural heritage -

(Update) On 12th December 2012, the Cabinet of Germany ratified the UNESCO Convention for the Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage, which brings us one step closer to the goal of the Deutscher Amateur Radio Club (DARC) and IARU to have Morse Code added to the list of Intangible cultural heritage. The national UNESCO offices are checking the applications of their respective countries, and upon success they will be send to Paris, where in November 2014, Morse Code could finally be accepted to the list.
