5V, TOGO. Jackie, F8AEJ, will be active as 5V7JD from Lome between
February
4th and March 15th. Activity will be holiday style (visiting his
son),
using a FT897D with a "AT-897 Plus Tuner" into a 6 band Conrad windom
antenna (used at CN2CDJ; see QRZ.com). He informs OPDX that he will
do
mostly digital modes. QSL via his home callsign, direct or eQSL. Log
will be posted on ClubLog.
6V, SENEGAL. Vladimir "Vlad", RK4FF, will once again be active as
6V7S
from Le Calao in Ngaparou at least four times during 2013. His
schedule
is as follows: February 11th-April 3rd, May 13th-May 30th, July
1-16th
and October 22nd-November 27th. Activity will probably be on
80/40/20/
15/10 meters using CW, SSB and RTTY. QSL via RK4FF.
C6, BAHAMAS. Look for operators Tom/N1GN and William/NE1B to be
active
as C6ANM from Nassau (NA-001, FL15) during the CQ 160 Meter SSB
Contest
(February 22-24th) as a Multi-Single entry. QSL via LoTW. They will
also
be active before and after the contest. Also, operators Tom/N1GN,
William/
NE1B, Mike/N1IW and Paul/K1VK will be active as C6ANM during the ARRL
DX
SSB Contest (March 2-3rd) as a Multi-Multi entry. QSL via LoTW and
look
for operations on all bands and modes before contest.
CQ NEWS (Wayne Mills, N7NG, Named CQ DX Editor). Richard, W2VU,
Editor
of CQ Amateur Radio, reported on January 22nd: "Renowned DXer,
DXpeditioner
and contester Wayne Mills, N7NG, of Jackson, Wyoming, has been named
CQ
magazine's DX Editor, magazine Editor Rich Moseson, W2VU, announced
today.
Mills - a 1999 inductee into the CQ DX Hall of Fame - succeeds Carl
Smith,
N4AA, who has stepped down after writing the magazine's DX column for
13
years.
Licensed in 1953 at age 11, Wayne began DXing in 1956 and went on
his
first DXpedition in 1985. He was part of the ZA1A team that
reintroduced
amateur radio to Albania in 1991, and the inaugural operation from
the
newly-independent Republic of Kosovo in 2008. From 2000 to 2007,
Wayne
was manager of the ARRL's Membership Services Department and worked
on
developing the Logbook of the World electronic confirmation system.
Wayne
also set several contesting records over the years, but says he
considers
himself much more of a DXer than a contester.
'I am looking forward to working closely with Wayne,' said CQ
Editor
Rich Moseson, W2VU, 'and to sharing with our readers his depth of
knowledge
and first-hand experience with so many aspects of DXing. We at CQ
also
thank Carl for his many contributions to the magazine and to all of
amateur radio over the past 13 years. We wish him all the best in the
future.'
'Following in Carl's footsteps will be difficult,' noted Mills,
'but
going forward as the new CQ DX column editor, I will attempt to
discuss
items of current interest such as DXpedition funding, pileup behavior
and maybe the many aspects of remote control DXing.'
Mills will begin writing the CQ DX column as of the magazine's
April
2013 issue."
ADDED NOTE FROM KB8NW: Your editor has known Carl Smith, N4AA, for
many years. Carl has always amazed me with all the hard work he put
in
for the DX community (writing the "QRZ DX" bulletin, "The DX
Magazine"
and the DX column for CQ Magazine). Where does he find the time?? I
guess
he deserves this break. Thanks Carl for the many years as DX editor
for
CQ Magazine.
D4, CAPE VERDE. Mats, SM7GIB, will be active as D44TIB from Cape
Verde
(AF-086) between February 25th and March 8th. Activity will be
holiday
style using a wire vertical on 160-10 meters. QSL via his home
callsign.

20,000km,
and they estimate it will take them 6 months to reach Cape Town. They
will depart Reykjavik in early January 2013 and update their Web site
with news of their DXpedition. The operation is to last for
approximately
six months from 20 DXCC entities in Africa. Jon is in the process of
obtaining licenses to operate from the following DXCC entities:

be embedded on the Web site AFTER the expedition in August 2013.

Branch Manager, reports: "Each year at this time DXCC is busy
finishing
up applications from the previous year. I have been getting questions
from hams asking about applications that were sent for 2013.
Until DXCC completes applications for the 2012 calendar year, we
cannot
begin processing applications for 2013. Applicants can still submit
their
applications, but they need to be held pending completion of 2012.
Normally, completion of the previous year happens on or by March 1
so
please use this date as a guide as to when DXCC begins processing the
2013 applications.
Note: This applies to all Digital and LoTW applications as well as
for
paper carde submissions.
