01/10/2013: After World War 1 and with the banishment of radio amateurs to
the
supposedly "useless shorter wavelengths" an amazing period of radio
exploration
took place. Amateurs all over the globe soon learnt that far from being
useless
these wavelengths seem to allow communication over long distances. Amateurs
in
ZL were at the forefront of this activity with the first ZL to VK QSO in
April
1923, and then world record distance QSOs between ZL and Argentina in May
1924,
ZL and California in September 1924, ZL and Connecticut on the US east
coast
just weeks later, and the ultimate Z4AA Frank Bell's QSO with Cecil Goyder
G2SZ
in London on 18 October 1924. To commemorate the 90th anniversary of the
record
breaking activities of these early pioneers of Amateur Radio, ZM90DX will
be on
the air between 1 October 2013 and 31 October 2014 on all bands 1.8 MHz to
1.2
GHz and beyond in all modes. Activated by the Kiwi DX Group, an informal
group
of DXers and contest enthusiasts, ZM90DX will be used around New Zealand
and a
special commemorative QSL card will be available as well as an award
program for
contacts with ZL during this period. The QSL manager will be M0OXO.
Further
details can be found at: www.zm90dx.com/ [ZL3NB]
02/10/2013: A Special Event Station callsign, GB1BOL will be on-air

Scotland.
This skirmish was fought between the Vikings and Scots on 2nd October,
1263. The
portable amateur radio station will be set up near to the Battle of Largs
Pencil
Monument, near to the Largs Yacht Haven and will be operated for one day
only,
on 2nd October, 2013. They will be operating on 40m and 20m SSB (WX and
band
conditions permitting). They will also be operating a QRP station because
of
weight restrictions and this should have a low visual and environmental
impact.
WAB Square NS25, Maidenhead Grid Locator IO75ns. The operators will be
Ian
MM0IMC (licencee) and Andrew MM6GTJ. QSL by eQSL and LoTW only! [Southgate

BITS & PIECES -

Wim, ON6DX will be returning to Agbodrafo, Togo, during November - December
2013
and QRV again as 5V7TH. He will try to be active on 30 & 40m, CW/SSB

When in Togo, Wim will make the journey to Grand Popo, Benin (TY), and
hopes to
collect his license for an upcoming DXpedition to there. Website:
CANCELLED - Mike, VE2XB (aka VY0BRR), will be travelling to Broughton
(Qikiqtarjuaq) Island, Nunavut IOTA NA-130 between Sept 23-27. This is
postponed
due to a Husky attack on my colleague's sister. She was bitten all
over
especially, her arms and legs. Mike hopes to visit next month instead.
Stay
tuned!
FW, WALLIS & FUTUNA
Jean-Jacques TK5JJ will leave Corsica for 2 years and he will be FW5JJ

K9W, WAKE ATOLL DXPEDITION
Press Release #5
The Wake Atoll commemorative team is in the final phase of preparation.
All
equipment has been received in Hawaii and will be transported to Hickam AFB
for
delivery to Wake Island. Thanks, Kimo, KH7U for your invaluable
assistance!
The plan is for the team to assemble in Hawaii on or before 3 October,
depart 4
October and arrive on 5 October. The following day will be dedicated to
station
set-up. There will be two CW and two SSB stations on the air. The CW site
will
be located across from the Arrivals terminal and the SSB site will be
housed in
a "beach house" near downtown Wake.
We are planning on being QRV 7 October through 18 October (Wake time). If
there
are any changes, they will be posted on our website. Logs will be uploaded
to
ClubLog as time and internet access allows.
This is a commemorative DXpedition. Our prime objective is to honor the
lives
and contributions of the Forgotten 98 civilian contractors who lost their
lives
on Wake during WWII. Some of these men have yet to be identified and
are
interred in Honolulu. If you know any of the Forgotten 98 or their
relatives,
modern DNA testing may identify their remains and provide for a proper
burial.
Please take a moment to look through their names.
The team wants to thank the DX community, including generous
worldwide
Foundations, Clubs, Individuals, Equipment manufacturers and outlets for
their
outstanding support of the Wake commemorative efforts. These DXpeditions
are
extremely expensive and could not be accomplished without the support of
the
entire DX community. Visit the Wake Island DXpedition website to view
our
sponsors and make your personal donation.
Please note! A few other DXpeditions will be on the air during the
Wake
operation. To avoid the dreaded "not in the log", please be sure
which
DXpedition you are working! Our operators will announce the K9W callsign
often
to help identify your contact.
Please check our website frequently for updates.

And don’t forget to sign our guestbook!

T32RC - CHRISTMAS ISLAND DXPEDITION -
UPDATE - In honor of the Russian Robinson Club’s twentieth anniversary,
a
callsign of T32RRC was requested for this DXpedition. Unfortunately, as
of
September 9, 2013, we were informed that the tentatively confirmed callsign
will
not be made available to us. The team then requested a callsign of
T32RC.
On September 25, 2013 the Communications Commission of The Republic of
Kiribati
advised Dean - KW7XX that they will issue T32RC for our DXpedition
group.
Although the T32RC callsign has not been issued yet, we have been assured
that
it will be issued shortly. [DX World]
TU, IVORY COAST
Dimitri F5SWB, who is TU5DF until October 20th has put more than 8000 QSO
in his
log and hopes to have 12000 at the end. He is active from 40 to 10 in CW
with
few in SSB. QSL via F5SWB. [F6AJA]
UPDATE from Donovan, ZS2DL
It is with tremendous disappointment, that we have had to cancel the A22D
trip
in April 2014. The main reason for this has been the breakdown of
sponsorship
from one of the main Japanese manufacturer of Radio equipment. These
negotiation
have been ongoing for nearly a year now, and business must be bad as we
simply
count not reach a workable solution.
As a result we have no alternative but to cancel the A22D adventure.
Please
accept our most sincere apologies, but promise to be back from somewhere
else
soon, maybe even more sought after than A2.
