AUGUSTA COUNTY, Va. (WHSV) -- John Keller recently competed in an amateur radio contest where he placed among the best of the best. Just recently, he competed in a worldwide radio contest where he had to stay awake for 48 straight hours making as many contacts as possible. He placed first in Virginia, first in Roanoke Division (NC, SC, WV and VA), second in Fourth Call Area (AL, FL, GA, KY, NC, SC, TN and VA), fourth in the USA, fifth in North America and eleventh in the world. Keller said his inspiration came from his grandfather who was also a HAM back in the 1940's and 50's. He even uses his grandpas call letters which are W-4-ZAO.
