The Shore Points Amateur Radio Club, the local chapter of the American Radio Relay League (ARRL) -- a brotherhood best known as "ham radio" operators - took part in the ARRL's annual 24-hour field day Saturday and Sunday, June 24-25. More than 35,000 ham radio operators in the United States and Canada participate in the event on the fourth weekend of each June as a way to enlighten the public of ham radio as a source of entertainment, information sharing and emergency communication. The radio frequencies that licensed ham radio operators use allows them to communicate with others in unusual places around the world.
