01/02/2013: Sean, KX9X, is going to be at the ARRL SC State convention. During his trip he will attempt to validate Dewees Island (NA-110, USi SC042, WW Loc. FM02DU), Charleston county, South Carolina, for the U.S. islands award program. The plan is to activate the island on 1 February 2013 (1500 - 2000z) running QRP with his Yaesu 817 on both CW and SSB. 02/02/2013: Bob, W7YAQ (ex-ZK3YA) and Bill, N7OU plan to be active from both Fiji and Rotuma between 2-21 February 2013. 3D2NB - Nadi, Viti Levu Island (OC-016, WLOTA 0055), Fiji from 2-7 February. 3D2RX - Rotuma (OC-060) from 8-21 February. Operation will be mostly CW, with some RTTY and SSB, 160-10m. At both QTHs their vertical antennas will be next to saltwater on a north-facing shore. 03/02/2013: On Sunday, 3 February 2013, Henning, OZ7HB and Jakob, OZ7AEI plan to activate Lerkenfeld Adal (OZFF-057) and Lovnshalvoen (OZFF-068). 07/02/2013: Craig, VK6JJJ, will be QRV as VK0JJJ from Douglas Mawson Station (ANARE), Holme Bay, Mac Roberson Land, Antarctica (AA VK-04, IOTA AN-016, WAP AUS-04, WW Loc. MC12KJ). Amateur radio station VK0JJJ consists of a Flex 5000A (SDR) transceiver, Emtron DX-2SP linear amplifier, MFJ-986 Tuner, Heil PR-781 desk mic & Heil Pro Set Elite headset and a Sloping delta loop antenna. Craig will be travelling to the Australian Antarctic Station "Mawson" by the ice breaker Aurora Australis on 17 January 2013 as an expeditioner on the 2013/14 Australian National Antarctic Research Expedition. Arrival at Mawson station will be on 7 February 2013. He will be wintering at Mawson Station for approximately twelve months, then returning to Australia around January 2014. Whilst there he hopes to be QRO on bands 160m to 6m with a lot of priority given to 6m operation. He plans on installing a 6m propagation beacon to monitor openings kindly donated by David N3DB Secretary / Treasurer of The 6 Meter Beacon Project inc. (www.6meterbeaconproject.org/). 08/02/2013: A large multi-national team from the Radio Club de Provins (F6KOP) will be active as 5X8C from the Country Lake Resort, Garuga, Uganda (WW Loc. KJ60GB) between 8-18 February 2013. They will have six stations active on 160-6 metre CW, SSB, RTTY and PSK. 08/02/2013: Dave, N4QS, will be operating from Georgetown, Grand Cayman Island (NA-016, WLOTA 1042) as ZF2DP from 8-12 February 2013. He plans to be active during the CQ WPX RTTY contest (9-10 February) and will also operate some CW and SSB on the days before and after the contest -- primarily on the WARC bands. 01/03/2013: Special event station 8J6ISG will be active on all bands and modes between 1 March and 30 April 2013 to celebrate the opening of the New Ishigaki Airport. (ISG is the IATA - International Air Transport Association airport code). The new airport will be located to the east of Ishigaki (JCC 4704), Ishigaki Island (WLOTA 0134), Yaeyama Islands (AS-024), Okinawa prefecture, Japan. The new airport is supposed to have a 2,000m (6,562 ft) runway, expandable to 2,500m (8,202 ft). Construction started in October 2006, for completion by 2013, and is scheduled to open on 7 March. 01/01/2013: The RSGB 2013 Centenary Special Event has moved to North Scotland (EU-005, WLOTA 1234) where they will use the event callsign GM100RSGB (since 29 January) until 25 February 2013. The plans are to have both VHF and HF stations active using SSB and FM with voice and CW as appropriate. 01/02/2013: Special event station 8J6KKC is currently active until 28 February 2014 to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of Kitakyushu-city (JCC 4021), Fukuoka prefecture, Kyushu region, island of Kyushu (AS-077, WLOTA 0963), Japan. The city of Kitakyushu was founded on 10 February 1963 and was designated on 1 April 1963 by government ordinance. The city was born from the merger of five municipalities (Moji, Kokura, Tobata, Yahata and Wakamatsu) centered around the ancient feudal city of Kokura. Phil, G3SWH has been appointed as QSL manager for Thor, TF4M's operations from September 2004 to the present. Thor has recently joined RSGB which means that cards for TF4M and TF4X can now be sent and received via the RSGB bureau. Phil has also been appointed as QSL manager to handle Thor's 4W3DX (16th May to 23rd June 2003) and 4W6MM (16th March 2000 to 1st January 2003) operations from Timor Leste (IOTA OC-148). According to the "IMM Revision: Changes to Pricing and Mailing Standards for International Mailing Services" - Under "Changes to International Extra Services": "International Reply Coupons: The Postal Regulatory Commission (PRC), in its PRC Order No. 1541, approved the Postal Service's proposal to discontinue outbound international reply coupons effective January 27, 2013; however, the Postal Service will continue to exchange (redeem) international reply coupons purchased in foreign countries and presented at U.S. Post Office facilities."
