15/02/2013: Joe, K5KUA, will once again operate portable from Galveston Island
(NA-143, USi TX001S), Gulf of Mexico, Galveston county, Texas, from 15-17

15/02/2013: From 15-18 January 2013, operators Olof G0CKV, Kazu JK3GAD, Seppo
OH1VR and Oliver W6NV will be active as M5E from Marconi's historical
trans-Atlantic test site, Cornwall, England (EU-005, WLOTA 1841). QRV on all HF

15/02/2013: Hans, OE3NHW, is signing OA6Q again from Arequipa (WW Loc. FH43FO),
Peru, using a TS-480HX, 5 band Spiderbeam and G5RV on HF until April 2013. QSL

15/02/2013: John, W2GD, has planned a last minute trip and will be active once
again as P40W from near Santa Cruz, island of Aruba (SA-036, WLOTA 0033). His
main focus will be an entry in the ARRL DX CW Contest (16-17 February). Note:
160M on the hour and 80m on the half hour. Some pre/post contest WARC operation

15/02/2013: Joeke, PA0VDV will be active again as PJ2/PA0VDV from the island of
Curacao (SA-099, WLOTA 0942) from 15 February to 22 March 2013. He will operate

15/02/2013: Look for Andrew, VK4NM and Peter, VK4LAT to be active as VK4NM/p
from Fraser Island (OC-142, WFF VKFF-216, WLOTA 2976), Queensland, Australia,
between 15-18 February 2013. QRV on 80-10 metres. Emphasis on high bands as they
usually are only activate in the winter when 10m activity is low. QSL goes via

15/02/2013: Operators Rudi DK7PE, Juergen DH6ICE, Juergen DH0RAK, Bernhard
DK7TF and Zik DK8ZZ from the Lufthansa Amateur Radio Club (DL0DLH) will be
active as XV2DLH from Mui Ne village, Vietnam, between 15-26 February 2013. QRV
on the HF bands using CW, SSB and the Digital (PSK, RTTY) modes. QSL via DK8ZZ,

15/02/2013: YB6AR and several other operators will be active as homecall/p from
Pulau Bunta (claimed for IOTA group OC-245, WLOTA 2390) on 15-17 February 2013.
They plan to be QRV on 40, 30, 20, 15 and 10 metre SSB and RTTY. QSL direct to

16/02/2013: The Guantanamo Bay ARC station (NA-015, WLOTA 0358) suffered
extensive damages when hurricane Sandy hit Cuba. Ed KN4KL/KG4KL (16-23 February)
and Bill, W4WV/KG4WV (17 February-1 March) will be there to "get all antennas
fixed and the shack back in operating condition". They plan to be QRV "as time

17/02/2013: Look for Michel, F6GWV and Gildas, F6HMQ to be active as TO22C from
the island of Guadeloupe (NA-102, DIFO FG-001, WFF FFF-004, WLOTA 0644) between
17 February and 3 March 2013. Plans are to be QRV on all bands with focus on

18/02/2013: Phil, G3SWH and Jim, G3RTE will be active as H44KW from Guadalcanal
[Honiara] (WLOTA 0086, Grid Loc. RI00), Solomon Islands (OC-047), 18-28 February
2013. They will operate CW only on 80-10 metres; plans are to have two stations

20/02/2013: Werner, DJ9KH plans to be active from the Kingdom of Tonga between
20 February and 3 March 3 2013. He will be QRV on the HF bands from Tongatapu
island (OC-049) as A31WH on 13-23 February and from Vava'u island (OC-064) as

20/02/2013: Tom, N1GN and Bill, NE1B will once again be active as C6ANM from
Nassau (Gambier Village), New Providence Island (NA-001, WLOTA 1115, WW Loc.
FL15GB), Bahamas, between 20 February and 3 March. They will participate in the
CQWW 160-M SSB Contest (22-24 February) as a Multi-Single entry from CQ zone 8.
Operations all bands and modes before contest. They will then be joined by Mike,
N1IW and Paul, K1VK for a Multi-Multi entry in the ARRL DX SSB Contest (2-3

20/02/2013: John, W5JON, will once again be operating from their Calypso Bay
vacation home, island of St. Kitts (NA-104, WW Loc. FK87PG), from 20 February

20/02/2013: Christina, WD8MUR (VP2MUR) and Jack, KB8RJ (VP2MRS) will be
operating from Gingerbread Hill, island of Montserrat (NA-103, WLOTA 1475, WW
Loc. FK86VS) between 20 February and 14 March 2013 using mostly SSB. Look for

20/02/2013: Look for Manuel, CE2UNE, to be active as XR2BH on 20-24 February
2013 from the Puerto Aldea (Caleta Hornilla) lighthouse (NAC 133, ARLHS CHI-110,
Admiralty G1896.20) for the "Weekend South American Lighthouses" (22-24
February). The beacon is located in Tongoy Bay, near the village of Puerto
Aldea, Elqui Province, Coquimbo Region, Chile (WW Loc. FF49EQ). QSL XR2BH via

20/02/2013: Dick, WN3R, will be active once again on all HF bands and modes

21/02/2013: Look for members of the Radiogrupo Sur, Uruguay, to be active as
CV5A from Isla de Flores (SA-030) and lighthouse (RGS CX-104, ARLHS URU-001,
TWLHD WLH CX-001, WLOTA LH-0528, Admiralty G0690, WW Loc. GF25AB), located in
the Montevideo Department, from 21-24 February 2013. Operators include Lupo
CX6ABC, Daniel CX9LAU, Pedro CX5BW, Claudio CX4DX, Julian CX5BE, Hugo CX1ABB,

21/02/2013: Members of the Palos Verdes ARC, namely Ray N6HE, Jeff K6JW, Joe
NZ6L, Clay AB9A, Diana AI6DF, Bill KG6WVF, Dan K6DPY, Steve K6NT and Bob W6HIP
will be active as K6PV/6 from Santa Catalina Island (NA-066, USi CA016S, WLOTA
2912, Los Angeles County), California, from 21-24 February, 2013. Activity could
be CQWW 160-M SSB Contest .. NAQP RTTY Contest .. 80-40-20-17?-15-12?-10M SSB,

21/02/2013: Mike, WB7DXA, will be active as V63DXA in Micronesia between 21
February and 21 March 2013. While there, he plans to operate from the islands of
Kosrae (OC-059, WLOTA 1569), Pohnpei (OC-010) and possibly Mokil and Pingelap
Atolls (OC-226). Mike is sailing on a boat with a marine radio. The captain
believes it works on 20 metres and possibly some additional bands. He isn't a
ham so he can't try it out. So Mike is hoping that it works out when he gets
there. As it stands he arrives into Kosrae on February 23rd. Then leave Pohnpei
on March 22nd. He plans to operate from Kosrae for about a week and then on to
the Atolls (OC-226) on the way to Pohnpei, but it all depends on WX and other
factors. As far as bands, he thinks 20 meters phone is what he is looking to
operate mostly. Mike will bring a key for CW just in case he can get it going.
The other bands will need to be determined after he gets there. Mike plans on
using LoTW as the primary QSL vehicle, but you can send cards direct to him or

21/02/2013: The Italian DXpediton Team have announced their next DXpedition
will be to Ouagadougou (WW Loc. IK92FI), Burkina Faso, between 21 February and
06 March 2013. Plans are to be QRV on 160-6 metre CW, SSB and RTTY, using the
callsign XT2TT. Team members include Alfeo I1HJT, Silvano I2YSB, Vini IK2CIO,
Angelo IK2CKR, Marcello IK2DIA, Stefano IK2HKT, Gino IK2RZP and Mac JA3USA. QSL
I2YSB for direct QSLs and IK2CIO for bureau QSLs (no E-mail requests please). A

22/02/2013: Look for Eric, T6MO, to be active from Helmand Province,
Afghanistan, in the CQ 160-Meter SSB Contest (22-24 February) as a

22/02/2013: Yuki JA3VWT, Kunio JA1CJA, Kita JA3IVU, and Jun JH3AEF will once
again be active as XT2VWT, XT2CJA, XT2IVU and XT2AEF, respectively, from Ouaga,
Burkina Faso, between 22 February and 2 March 2013. They will be QRV on 80-10

24/03/2013: Graham, MM0GHM, will be active mobile as MM0GHM/m from the isle of
Barra (IOSA OH11, SCOTIA HI02, WLOTA 3126), Outer Hebrides (EU-010), between

01/04/2013: Dirk, DL5DCL, will be active again from Ameland Island (EU-038,
WLOTA 1059) as PA/DL5DCL beginning 1 April 2013. He will be on the air at
irregular times, holiday style, for approximately five days on several HF bands,

05/04/2013: Rob, N7QT, will be heading back to the island of Saint Lucia
(NA-108, WLOTA 1336) on a suitcase mini-DXpedition. We will be operating from
5-16 April 2013 using the new CrankIR portable antenna system from SteppIR (www.
stepper.com/). The operators will be Frans, J69DS and Rob, J6/N7QT. Their
operational base will be a magnificent villa located in Babonneau, which
overlooks Gros Isle and Cap Estate. Their goal is to demonstrate "ultralite"
DXpeditions into magnificent "vista" locations. Operations will include field
portable radio, battery only using backpack/lightweight antennas. They will be
operating 80m-10m using CW, SSB, and RTTY or PSK, as well as field portable
(battery only) either from St. Lucia beaches or scenic mountain tops. During

10/05/2013: Operators Teo SV1GRM, George SV1RP, John SV1GYG, John SV1GE and
Takis SV2FWV will be active from the island of Kalolimnos (EU-001, GIOTA
DKS-048, MIA MGD-011, WLOTA 0662) between 10-20 May 2013. QRV on all HF bands

18/05/2013: A non-stop castle activity for the Belgium Castle Award is planned
on Saturday 18 May 12:00 UTC till Monday 20 May 14:00 UTC 2013. Members of UBA
section ODE will activate Castle De Ghellinck (BCA OV-032, WCA ON-00364) on all
HF bands SSB and CW, also on 2m FM, using the call OT7G/p. The castle located in
Elsegem (WW Loc. JO10ST), Oost Vlaanderen province, goes back to the 16th
century and became the property of the family De Ghellinck around 1718. Although
the castle was surrounded with water, it was not really fortified. As so many
castles, it was pillaged during the French revolution. In the 19th century there
have been many structural alterations. During both World Wars there was a lot of
damage. After the Second World War the castle wasn’t used any more and in 1973
the whole building burned down. The community of Wortegem Petegem obtained the
castle and the park. The remaining buildings are being restored, but financial

24/05/2013: Operators Philippe ON4ACP, Erik ON4ANN, Jose ON4CAU, Erik ON4CCV,
Walter ON8CW, Cedric ON4CKM, Rudi ON6MI, Marc ON4CJY and Patrick ON4DCU will be
active as MJ/ON6NB from St. Brelade, Isle of Jersey (EU-013, WLOTA 0818, WW Loc.
IN89VE), between the 24th till 30th May 2013. The aim is to be QRV on 2M, 6M,
from 10m to 160m, SSB and CW, PSK with an emphasis on the higher bands,

14/06/2013: Dave, W9DR, has planned a 6 Metre DXpedition to the north shore of
the island of Anegada (WW Loc. FK78TR), in the British Vigin Islands (NA-023),
and will use the callsign VP2V/W9DR from 14-28 June 2013. He will be QRV on
50.115 Mhz SSB and 50.115,6 Mhz CW. Dave will also be running a beacon on

23/07/2013: Rich, M5RIC, will be active from the island of Zakynthos (EU-052,
GIOTA INS-015, MIA MG-138, WLOTA 0209) as SV8/M5RIC from 23-30 July 2013. This
will include a Single-Op/High-Power/Dxpedition entry in the RSGB IOTA Contest
(27-28 July). Outside the contest Rich will be QRV on 80-10 metre RTTY and SSB.

24/07/2013: Operators ON2AV, ON4CEZ and ON7JA will activate the island of Brac
(EU-016, ACIA IC-657, CIA-04, IOCA CI-010, MIA MC-042, WLOTA 0416), Croatia,
between 24 July and 2 August 2013 as 9A/OO7T/p on all bands and modes. This will
also include an entry in the RSGB IOTA Contest (27-28 July). 100% QSL via the

02/08/2013: Members of the Cape Ann Amateur Radio Association (CAARA) will use
the special callsign W1T to activate Thacher Island (NA-148, USi MA001S, WLOTA
0924, WW Loc. FN41UR), in Essex county, Massachusetts, from 2-5 August 2013.
They also plan to activate both lighthouses on the island: Thacher Island South
[Cape Ann] (ARLHS USA-105, TWLHD WLH K-031, Admiralty J0276) and Thacher Island
North (ARLHS USA-105, TWLHD WLH K-167, Admiralty J 0277). Operators include Rick
WZ1B, Mary KB1TEO, Dave KD1NA, Allison N1QEH, Laurier AJ1Z and Ruth WW1N. QSL

17/08/2013: Dieter, DF2SD, will activate the island of Fano (EU-125, DIA
NS-002, WWFF OZFF-004), holiday style, as OZ/DF2SD between 17-30 August 2013. He
will be on the WARC bands only (20m, 17m, 12m), mainly RTTY with some SSB, for a

SPECIAL EVENTS -

15/02/2013: The memorial stations EM70LI and EM70LL are activated by members of
the Radio Club "Izyumsky Shlyakhov", Izyum, Kharkov oblast, Ukraine, between 1
February and 1 October 2013. Activity is to commemorate the 70th anniversary of
liberation (1943-2013). Further activities will be carried out from former
battlegrounds as EM70LI/p and EM70LL/p. The Izyum area was the field of numerous
battles during World War II. In January, 1942 the city was liberated by the Red
Army forces but later in May, 1943 the city was attacked again and thousands of
Russian soldiers and officers were boxed in by Nazi Germany army. The city was

15/02/2013: The special event station GB8OSC celebrates the 80th jubilee of the
Scarborough Amateur Radio Society during the entire month of February 2013. QSLs

15/02/2013: Members of the Sportclub of the University Transilvania Brasov
(YO6KSU, (www.csu.ro/) will activate the special event station YO2013EYOWF
between 15-24 February 2013. Activity is in celebration the European Youth
Olympic Winter Festival (eyowf2013.ro/). Operations will be on 80-10 metre CW,
SSB and the Digital modes. Three special awards will be issued (Gold, Silver and
Bronze), and the three different classes require a certain number of QSOs/bands

the Radio Club "Rade Koncar", Nis, Serbia, will activate special event stations

16/02/2013: The special event station PD13BP active from 16-28 February 2013
celebrates the official Baden-Powell Day (22 February). On 16-17 February mainly
Girl Guides take part in the "Thinking Day On The Air" (TDOTA) as the Boy Scouts

16/02/2013: Taking part in the Chinese New Year Cultural and Heritage
Celebration, special event callsign 9M4CNY will be active on 16 February 2013

18/02/2013: ARI Sezione di Seina (IQ5AA) will be active as IO5ANT during the
10th Antarctic Activity week (18-24 February), using the reference WAP-210, from
the National Antarctic Museum, located in Seina, Regione Toscana, Italy. QSL via

18/02/2013: During the 10th Antarctic Activity Week, which will be held the
week of 18-24 February 2013, will be in the air, as in previous years, Javi
EC1KV, Dani EB1LA, Carri EA1CUB, Luis EA1CS, Juanjo EA1WX, Juan Carlos EA1AUM
and Fernando EA1WK, with the special callsign AO1ICE, from 160-10m, including

New Free RSGB Newsletter

The RSGB should be publishing the first edition of a new free email newsletter
in the coming week.

Written by RadCom author Steve Nichols, G0KYA, subjects covered in the opening
issue will include Using the QSL Bureau, Morse code, PSK31 and WSPR.

Although aimed at beginners it is anticipated many experienced radio amateurs
will find something of interest in the newsletter.

members of local branch of the Turkish Radio Amateur Club. QSL as directed on
