22/02/2013: Marcelo, PY2FN will be active as PY2FN/p from the lighthouse at
Ponta da Sela (ARLHS BRA-287, Admiralty G0480, WLOTA 1007, WW Loc. GG76GC) on
Sao Sebastiao Island (SA-028, DIB SP-02), Sao Paulo State, Brazil, from 22-25
February 2013. He plans to operate CW only on 40-6 metres and to participate in

22/02/2013: Look for Eric, T6MO, to be active from Helmand Province,
Afghanistan, in the CQ 160-Meter SSB Contest (22-24 February) as a
Single-Op/Low-Power entry. Limited effort; mainly from sunset to 1730z. QSL via

22/02/2013: Yuki JA3VWT, Kunio JA1CJA, Kita JA3IVU, and Jun JH3AEF will once
again be active as XT2VWT, XT2CJA, XT2IVU and XT2AEF, respectively, from Ouaga,
Burkina Faso, between 22 February and 2 March 2013. They will be QRV on 80-10

22/02/2013: John, K6AM, will once again be active from Savannah, Grand Cayman
Island (NA-016, WLOTA 1042), as ZF2AM for the CQWW 160-Meter SSB Contest (22-24
February). He plans a Single-Op/High-Power entry from CQ zone 8. QSL via home

23/02/2013: A team consisting of FR1JB, FR1GZ, FR4NP, FR4DJ, FR4OA, FR4OM,
FR4OO, FR4OS, FR4OU, FR4OV, FR4PE, FR4PF, FR4PG, FR5CU, FR5FC and FR5HV plan to
be active from the UNESCO world heritage site of Piton de la Fournaise [Peak of
the Furnace] volcano on the following dates: 23-24 February, 11-12 May and 3-4
August 2013. The callsign TO1PF will be used on each occasion. The volcano is a
shield volcano on the eastern side of Reunion island (AF-016, DIFO FR-001, WWFF
FFF-011, WLOTA 1812), with an elevation of elevation 2,632m. It is currently one
of the most active volcanoes in the world. QRV on all HF bands and modes. QSL

23/02/2013: ZW5WIM will be active from Ilha da Paz (SA-027, DIB SC-07), and
lighthouse (DFB SC-01, ARLHS BRA-137, TWLHD WLH PY-038, WLOTA 1983) on 23-24
February during the South American Lighthouses Weekend - 80-40-15-12 10 metres
SSB and the Digital Modes. Operators are Jose PU5IKE (Team Leader and QSL
Manager), Adriano PP5RK and Andre (SWL). QSL via PU5IKE, direct or bureau. Logs

24/02/2013: Members of the Radio Operadores del Este (RODE), KP3RE, will be
active, and try to qualify, Isleta Marina (USi PR-049, Grid Loc. FK78), Fajardo
county, Puerto Rico (NA-099) on 24th February 2013. Look for activity on the

24/02/2013: Ulf, DL5AXX, will be active as PJ2/DL5AXX from the island of
Curacao (SA-099, WLOTA 0942) between 24 February and 11 March 2013. He will be
QRV holiday style on 80-10 metres using mainly CW with some RTTY. QSL via his

25/02/2013: Al, F5VHJ, will be active from the QTH of Laurent, FM5BH in Ducos,
island of Martinique (NA-107, DIFO FM-001, WLOTA 1041, DDFM 97) between
(approx.) 25 February and 3 March 2013. QRV on all bands and modes using the
callsign FM/F5VHJ. Al will also participate in the ARRL DX SSB Contest (2-3
March) using the special callsign TO5A, a Single-Op/All-Band/High-Power entry.

25/02/2013: After his trip in Uganda with the F6KOP gang, Gerard F2JD will be
back to Copan, located in the Copan Department of western Honduras, from around
25 February 2013 for 3 months. As usual he will be HR5/F2JD but he need to
repair his tower which is destroy with very strong wind last autumn. QSL via

25/02/2013: Ken, K4ZW, is returning to Juba, South Sudan, and will be QRV as
Z81Z when work permits between 25 February and 6 March 2013. Look for him this

26/02/2013: Gerry, W1VE, will be active as 8P9RM from Warleigh Plantation,
Saint Peter Parish, Barbados (NA-021, WLOTA 0999) between 26 February and 3
March 2013. He will also participate in the ARRL DX SSB Contest (2-3 March)
using the callsign 8P1V. Plans are for a Single-Op/All-Band/Low-Power entry.
Outside the contest Gerry will be QRV on 160-6m, with focus on CW and the low

26/02/2013: Matt, K0BBC, and his wife Valeriw, K0VAL, have made plans for
warmer weather... they will be active as KP2/K0BBC between 26 February and 5
March 2013 from the Hull Bay Cottages on the island of St. Thomas (USi VI004S),
St. Thomas county, U.S. Virgin Islands (NA-106). QRV on the HF bands, holiday
style. Matt plans to be active in the ARRL DX SSB Contest (2-3 March). QSL via

26/02/2013: John, K6AM (PJ2/K6AM) will join Wayne K8LEE (PJ2/K8LEE) and Geoff
W0CG (PJ2DX) and others at the Signal Point super-station, island of Curacao
(SA-099, WLOTA 0942) from 26 February to 12 March 2013. This will include a
Multi-Single entry in the ARRL DX SSB Contest (2-3 March) as PJ2T. QSL via home

27/02/2013: Sam, K0YAK (ex 9N7AK), is now in Khartoum, Sudan, and will be
active as ST2SF beginning in late January and continuing through at least
mid-April 2013. His licence includes full HF privileges, but is limited to 100w.
He plans to be QRV on 40-10 metres (perhaps also 80 and 6m) SSB, CW and digital

27/02/2013: Look for Lee, N8LJ (ex-T32LJ), to be active holiday style on the HF
bands from Placencia village, Belize, between 27 February and 6 March 2013. QRV

27/02/2013: Scott, K7ZO, will once again be active as YN5ZO from 'El Arbol del
Limon' located in San Juan Del Sur, Rivas, Nicaragua, between (approx) 27
February and 3 March 2013. His main focus will be a Single-Op/All-Band entry in

28/02/2013: Cordell Expeditions has announced plans for a DXpedition to
Clipperton Island (NA-011, DIFO FO-001) using the callsign TX5K. They will be on
the air between 28 February and 10 March 2013. They will be active on all bands
and modes with up to 8 stations, and will use an advanced version of DXA, the
satellite-linked system that displays near-real-time log data. The team includes
Bob KK6EK, Walt N6XG, Ed KE3D, Christian DL1MGB, Igor US0VA, Robert SP5XVY,
Dietmar DL3DXX, Dave WJ2O, Luis XE1L, Mathias DJ2HD, Mike WA6O, Yann F1NGP,

28/02/2013: New operator, Adam ZS7V, takes up the position of Radio Technician
& Team Leader at SANAE IV Base (AA ZS-03 WAP ZAF-03 WFF ZSFF-026, IOTA AN-016),
Antarctica, starting at the end of December 2012. He will be QRV end of February
2013 once the supply ship departs for Cape Town, and will remain at SANAE until

01/03/2013: Toshi JA8BMK, Ken JN1THL and Yoshiko JQ1LCW will be active from
Rodrigues Island (AF-017, WWFF 3BFF-004, WLOTA 4265) as 3B9DX between 1-10 March
2013. They will operate CW, SSB, RTTY and PSK31 on 80-10m using a Kenwood
TS-590, a Yaesu FT-897D + Tokyo Hy-Power amp. Antennas will be a Hexbeam, Windom
and Verticals. If time permits, Toshi JA8BMK will be QRV as 3B8/JA8BMK from

01/03/2013: Once again operators Juan Carlos TI2JCY, Carlos TI2KAC, Mauricio

Rica as TI8M for the ARRL DX SSB Contest (2-3 March). They plan a M/? (surprise)

11/03/2013: Pete, VE3IKV, plans to activate the Dry Tortugas Islands (NA-079),
Monroe county, Florida, as VE3IKV/W4 between 11-14 March 2013, ONLY if the
weather co-operates. Low-power battery and solar panel CW operation - there is
no power on the island. Pete will be QRV on 30, 17 and 6 metres. QSL via home

20/03/2013: Operaators Michael G7VJR, Nigel G3TXF, John G4IRN and Martin G3ZAY
have planned an expedition to Easter Island (SA-001, DICE ICE-001, WWFF
CEFF-027, WLOTA 0319), which will take place from 20-27 March 2013. QRV as XR0YG
on 160m to 10m, mainly CW. They will run the HF bands but also plan to work
challenging paths on the low bands, emphasis on Europe. The team will use
Elecraft K3s, small PAs and vertical antennas. ClubLog uploads and LoTW uploads

30/06/2013: IPA Belgium active from Luxemburg - After a series of successful
activities from GJ, HB0, EU-038 and EU-146, 4 Belgian operators (Rene ON6OM,
Eddy ON6ZV, Martin ON7EG and Mike ON4MW) will be in Luxemburg and plan to be QRV
between 30 June and 05 July 2013 as LX/OO6P (callsign of the IPA) on the HF

06/07/2013: Eric, KV1J, will once again be active as FP/KV1J from Miguelon
Island (NA-032, DIFO FP-002, WLOTA 1417, Grid Loc. GN17) from 6-16 July 2013. He
will be QRV on 160-6 metre SSB, CW, RTTY and PSK31; primarily SSB, and RTTY;
generally on the highest frequency band open. Eric will try 6M if there are any
indications of openings. He will also participate in the IARU HF Contest (13-14
July) as a Single-Op/All-Band/Mixed-Mode/High-Power (500 Watts) entry.

SPECIAL EVENTS -

22/02/2013: The 20th anniversary of the town twinning between Haywards Heath
and Traunstein and the 25th jubilee of the "Friendship club Haywards Heath
Traunstein eV" is celebrated with the special callsign DR20CFT active until late
September (optional up to the end of December). The HAMs of the Mid Sussex
Amateur Radio Society (MSARS) in Haywards Heath are using a special callsign as

22/02/2013: Karcsi, HA5OKE and Gabi, HA7MAC are using special event callsign
HA30IGY until 30 June 2013 to remember the Hungarian poet, translator and editor

23/02/2013: Jim, GM0NAI, will be using the special callsign GM100C from his QTH

01/03/2013: The Radio Club Blagovestnik (LZ1KCP) is going to remember Saint
Kozma Zografski during the entire month of March with the special callsign
LZ1323SKZ. This callsign is valid for the All Bulgarian Saints Award 2013
(www.balkanclub.org/awards.htm) and is also worth 10 points towards the St.

01/03/2013: Special event station 8J6ISG will be active on all bands and modes
between 1 March and 30 April 2013 to celebrate the opening of the New Ishigaki
Airport. (ISG is the IATA - International Air Transport Association airport
code). The new airport will be located to the east of Ishigaki (JCC 4704),
Ishigaki Island (WLOTA 0134), Yaeyama Islands (AS-024), Okinawa prefecture,
Japan. The new airport is supposed to have a 2,000m (6,562 ft) runway,
expandable to 2,500m (8,202 ft). Construction started in October 2006, for
completion by 2013, and is scheduled to open on 7 March. QSL via the JARL

The CV5A Flores Island (SA-030) DXpedition has been postponed until further

FG4KH of the "E.M.E. Guadeloupe Club" shows up again from St Anne beach, Grande
Terre [Guadeloupe] (NA-102, DIFO FG-001, WWFF FFF-004, WLOTA 0644, WW Loc.
FK96HF) between 15 February and 9 March 2013. Their emphasis is put on 2m EME
and Tropo QSOs in JT65B and SSB from Guadeloupe but from time to time they will

Because of unexpected circumstances Eddy, ON4AFU, had to cancel the second part

The South American Lighthouse Weekend (Fin de Semana de Faros Sudamericanos)
will take place on 22-24 February. Expect many activities from South America
during this weekend.

P29NO - PAPUA NEW GUINEA
UPDATE: Nao is now QRV (as of 15 February 2013) on CW, SSB & RTTY using a
longwire.
Nao, JA2VQP is teaching mathematics at the Divine Word University in Wewak, East
Sepic Province (north coast of PNG main land). During December 2012 he shipped
some radio gear to P.N.G and hopes to be active in the coming months as P29NO.
Nao will be staying for two years. QSL via EA5GL, direct only. [DX World]

ZS8C - MARION ISLAND
Carson, ZR6CWI, has been appointed the Space Weather Engineer and will spend a
year on Marion Island (AF-021, WAP ZAF-10, WWFF ZSFF-012). Pierre ZS1HF/ZS8M
will be his QSL Manager and reports that Carson will be active as ZS8C from May
2013 to April 2014. He will operate SSB only. More info released in due course.
