A Brazilian ham family (Sergio, PP5JR, Eduardo, PU5FJR (15 years
old), und Bia, PU5BIA (17 y.o.)) will team up with Zorro,
JH1AJT,
to operate as A52JR from January 31 until February 4. The
activity
is coupled with one of Zorro's Foundation for Global Children

DL, Germany:
DXNL / DXMB's short time award concerning the 60th anniversary
of
our newsletter is well underway by now, with the first
successful
application by DL1DTL through DARC's DCL system. The special
event
station DJ60DXMB continues operations until the year's end. Upon
numerous requests a procedure for award applications by SWLs is
currently being worked out. Stay tuned.
DL, Germany:
The DARC congratulates the German team DA0HQ for achieving first
place in the IARU HF Championship 2013, runners up are EF0HQ
from
Spain and TM0HQ from France. Despite only middling condx the
ARRL,
who provides the log checking for the contest, saw no
substantial
decrease in received logs, the number being only 19 less than in
the record breaking year 2012.

Emil Kostadinov, DL8JJ, announces an overnight activation of the
Schneefernerkopf mountain (SOTA DL/WS-003) for February 1/2,

OL50OL draws attention to the first novice licenses for hams
between 15 and 18 years of age in Czechoslovakia, issued 50
years
ago. The prerequisite was a homemade transmitter for 160, which

Canadian hams have ben assigned five channels (5332 kHz, 5348

Silent Key:
Former ARRL Technical Relations Specialist Walter Ireland,
WB7CSL,
died on January 20, aged 76. He was instrumental in preparing

World Radiocommunication Conferences of 2000, 2003, and 2007.
