60M NEWS......
* The "W8GEX & 60m News" reports that Petr, OK1RP, has obtained
authori-
zation, again, to operate on 60 meters through December 31, 2014.
Nine other Czech Republic amateur radio operators have also
received
permits to use 5 MHz. Authorized frequencies are: 5288.5, 5330.5,

CW running 100 watts ERP. See Petr's Blog at:
* Efective January 2014, Canadian Amateur operators are permitted
to

Canada has granted Amateur Radio operators the use of five 60

frequencies
harmonize with those available to U.S. radio amateurs on 60
meters:
5332 kHz, 5348 kHz, 5358.5 kHz, 5373 kHz, and 5405 kHz. Amateur
stations will be restricted to USB, data, RTTY and CW modes, with
a
maximum bandwidth of 2.8 kHz, and a maximum power output of 100w
ERP
— the same the US allows. The Industry Canada 5 MHz Decision

DXER'S TOOL. It is suggested that DXers take a look at the Web page
<http://www.dxheat.com/). DXHeat offers versatile filtering of
incoming
Real-time Web DX-Cluster DX Spots. With its built in push algorithms,
it displays DX spots in an instant while being optimized for low
band-
width at the same time. Rich graphical tools and HTML5 Audio &
WebSDR
Technology make it indispensable for serious DXers. It also has over
25
million DX spots listed/searchable in its database. DXHeat also
provides
a visual tool to check the current band activity into all continents
at
a glance and a WebSDR to listen to any spot listed on your browser
(No
additional software or plugins needed). EDITOR'S NOTE: This site
seems
to work better in Google Chrome and an older version of JAVA (see
details
on the Web page).

VK9L, LORD HOWE ISLAND. The Lagunaria DX Group is proud to announce
their
DXpedition to Lord Howe Island in October 2014 (tentative October
12-29th).
The team has a great line-up of fine operators with many decades of
DX-
pedition experience. Operators mentioned are Jorg/DF6JC,
Mathias/DJ2HD,
Gerhard/DJ5IW, Markus/DJ7EO, Heye/DJ9RR, Christian/DL1MGB,
Dietmar/DL3DXX,
Andreas/DL5CW, Thomas/DL5LYM, Felix/DL5XL, Bernd/DL6FBL,
Dieter/DL8OH,
Jörg/DL8WPX, Robert/SP5XVY and Bernd/VK2IA. They plan to have up to
eight
fully equipped HF stations on the air for about 17 days. No callsign
was
announced. They are looking for sponsors. QSL route will be announced
soon. As Lord Howe is known for being not too big of an island, a
lodge
with access to nearly five acres of free area for erecting many
antennas
was booked. Lord Howe is also known for having strict baggage limitation
on
the regular flights. So most of the equipment will be transported by
ship.
Feel free to visit the DXpedition Web site at: http://www.lordhowe2014.org

VP2V, BRITISH VIRGIN ISLANDS (Update). A team of Polish operators
will
be active as VP2V/homecall from Anegada Island (NA-023, also a NEW
WFF
area - Anegada Bird Sanctuary, Flamingo Pond) between March 19th and
April 1st. Operators mentioned are Bogdan/SP2FUD, Kazik/SP6AXW,
Leszek/
SP6CIK, Janusz/SP9FIH and Robert/SP9WZS. Activity will be on 160-6
meters
using CW, SSB and RTTY. Suggested frequencies are:
CW - 1823, 3523, 7023, 10115, 14023, 18073, 21023, 24903 and 28023
kHz
SSB - 1844, 3797, 7180, 14180, 18140, 21280, 24980 and 28480 kHz
RTTY - 1835, 3580, 7035, 10140, 14080, 18100, 21080, 24920 and 28080
kHz
6m - 50103/CW and 50120/SSB
QSL via their home callsigns. A Web page is up and running with a
needs
(bands/modes) survey available at: http://www.vp2v.dxpeditions.org
The VP2V team has an interesting statement on their Web page which
states,
-- We believe that it is more important to give a new country to
"small
pistol" than to give an 8th band QSO to a "big gun" station. By doing
this, we hope to fulfill the demand for a "new one", especially from
stations located in Japan and the rest of the Far East.
YW0, AVES ISLAND (Update to OPDX.1117/OPDX.1122). The 4M5DX Group has
announced this past week that the YW0A operation will take place
some-
time in April for 10 days. On January 20th, Rafael/YV5RED and Rodrigo
Lazo (a research scientist) met with the Directorate of Hydrography
and
Navigation of the Navy of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela (DHN -
ARBV) authorities in order to coordinate YW0A final schedule. They
were
told some majors upgrades and maintenance work will be done first on
the
Simon Bolivar Base on Aves Island during February and March. Specific
days are suppose to be known sometime this week. It is suggested to
watch

ZD8, ASCENSION ISLAND. Werner, DJ9KH, informs OPDX that he will once
again
be active as ZD8D from Ascension Island (AF-003) between February
24th
and March 11th, for a more or less holiday-style-expedition. He
states,
"This expedition will start in Cape Town, South Africa, on board the
RMS
St. Helena. After a two days stop on St. Helena, where I hope to be
QRV
with a ZD7-callsign (Feb. 19th to Feb. 21st ), we (me and my wife)
will
arrive on Ascension Island Feb.24th. Activity will then start as soon
as
possible with a special focus on 160-40 meters. Werner mentions,
"After
having a lot of fun with CW on my 2013 A35WH expedition, CW will be
the
preferred mode. We are also prepared for 60m and 6m." He will also be
in
the ARRL DX SSB Contest (March 1-2nd) as a Single-Op/Single-Band
(possibly
10m). QSL via DL9HO. During the second week, they will have a second
operator join him. Axel, DK9BDN, will visit them and help them,
especially
on CW. DK1IP will be the pilot station for Werner in Germany. The
ZD8D
Web page <http://www.zd8d.de> will be updated soon with all the
information.
You can use the ZD8D Online QSL Request System to get your ZD8D
card(s).
The OQRS is available for direct and Bureau cards.
