3B8, MAURITIUS. Jean-Paul, HB9ARY, will once again be active as
3B8/HB9ARY
from Mauritius between January 24th and February 15th. Activity will
be
on all HF bands, 160-10 meters, using mainly SSB, but some CW on
160m.
QSL via NI5DX.
3B8, MAURITIUS (Update). Last week we reported that Robert, M0RCX,
would
be active as 3B8/M0RCX from Mauritius sometime around May 2-28th.
Since
then, Robert has updated OPDX about his activity. He informs that his
trip to Mauritius is more as a tourist with his family and not seen as
a
DXpedition. His power will be limited to 100 watts, and he hopes to
have
a hexbeam, a wire beam for 6m (possibly made from the island's
bamboo),
as well as a delta loop and long wire available for his activity. He
states, "Airlines are very picky about what I can take and anything
full
of wires poses twenty questions and rightly so. My antennas;
therefore,
will be simplistic." His operating position will be close to the city
center of Port Louis in the North West of the Island. He does
plan/hopes
to operate at least 3 hours a day on the following HF Phone bands:
40/20/17/15/12/10 meters. He is also planning to operate on some PSK
and JT65 making some contacts with low to modest power levels (NO
amp).
Robert has been asked about moonbounce over the horizon but thinks
this
may be optimistic with only 100 watts. He will set up a schedule on
QRZ.com under 3B8M0RCX (He states, "For some reason it will not
permit
the '/' after the suffix.)." Also, look for him to put up a band
schedule
up (as soon as he can), but provisionally Robert will fly to
Mauritius
on May 1st, so he should be up and running between May 3-28th. As an
added note, Robert also mentions, "I plan to live over there in about
four years so hopefully I'll get a feel for it. QTH is inland about a
mile from the ocean but there is a mountain behind me (east) this is
why I wish to push my signals over to the west." QSL via M0RCX,
direct,
by the Bureau or eQSL.
3V, TUNISIA. The "DXNL" (DX Newletter) reports: "After two years of
waiting Tunisia finally has a first independent Amateur Radio
Association,
the "Association Tunisienne des Radio Amateur" (ASTRA), which holds a
club station license as 3V8HQ. QSL via the Bureau.
3Y, BOUVET (Possible activity). Carl, N4AA, Editor of QRZ DX,
mrntioned
on January 16th, that Johan, ZS1A, reported: "Today the SAS Agulhas
arrives
at 3Y with a team of Norwegians on board. They are going to build a
new
base for scientists to stay for 2 months to do studies as early as
December
2014." Some information is available at this Web site:
Standby for more as it becomes available.
5H, TANZANIA. The "DX-World.net" is reporting that Sam, F6AML, will
once
again be active as 5H1Z on another IOTA tour from the following
Tanzanian
islands between January 28th and February 18th: Zanzibar Island
(AF-032),
Mafia Island (AF-054), Kilwa Kisiwani Island (AF-074) and Songo Songo
Island (AF-074) and Karange Island or Yambe Island (AF-087). Activity
will
be on 40-10 meters using CW and SSB. QSL via F6AML.
7P8, LESOTHO (Looking For Operators!). Frosty, K5LBU, announced this
past
week that he is still looking for a few more team members for a
DXpedition
to Lesotho (7P8) this April. He states that they have 3 already and
they
are looking for more to join in the fun. They plan to arrive on the
21st
or 22nd of April at Johannesburg and then drive down to Roma,
Lesotho.
Frosty adds that they will have 1 or 2 Hex Beams, a Tennadyne T6 HF 6
elements Log Periodic, as well as putting up verticals for 160/80 and
40m. If they can end up with 6 or more operators, they will have at
least 3 stations on the air. If interested, you can contact him at
<3da0cf@gmail.com> or 281-682-6093.
8Q, MALDIVES. By the time you read this, Bjorn, SM0MDG, will be on
Raa
Atoll (AS-013) for one week. He is not expected to be on the air as
8Q7BM until about January 22nd. Activity will holiday style on all
bands,
160-10 meters. He does plan to be in the CQWW 160m CW Contest
(January
24-26th). QSL via M0URX (OQRS preferred).

NCDXF PRESS RELEASE. The following was released on January 19th
[edited]:
"Press Release - FOR IMMEDIATE PUBLICATION -- NCDXF announces major
grant
to FT5/T Tromelin Island DXpedition -- January 19, 2014
The Northern California DX Foundation is pleased to announce a
grant
of $25,000 to the FT5/T Tromelin Island DXpedition planned for
November
2014. Tromelin is #10 on the DX Magazine's Most Wanted List for 2014.
It
is #3 Most Wanted on the U.S. West Coast.
Without major financial support from NCDXF, DXpeditions like this
to
challenging or rare locations would not be possible.
<http://www.tromelin2014.com/en/> has more details.
Tromelin is a very
small and very environmentally fragile area. There are strict
limitations
to the number of visitors and the time allowable on the island. The
team's
antenna plans, pilot feedback plans and enthusiasm should make this
entity
available to many DXers.
For the past 42 years the NCDXF has funded major DXpeditions to
many
Most Wanted Entities. The credit for these large grants goes to the
NCDXF
contributors, individuals and clubs, who make DX like this possible.
Have you contributed yet? ....

Operations will be on all HF bands, including the 2 meter band,
using
various transmission modes. All QSOs will be confirmed by a
commemorative
QSL card by LABRE. Specifically for QSOs made between 03:00 UTC on
February
1st, 2014, until 02:59 UTC on February 3rd, 2014. To receive a
beautiful
80 Years LABRE Diploma, just one QSO with any station will do it. All
QSLs
and diplomas will be sent automatically as noted in the LABRE
station's
logs; no need to send your log. All QSLs and diplomas will be sent via
the
bureau. If the participant prefers to receive a diploma or QSL via
direct,
you must send your QSL as follows:
• to receive QSL: 1 IRC or 2 GS (maximum 3 QSL each envelope)
• to receive diploma: 3 IRC or 5 GS
Send to: LABRE 80 YEARS, Caixa Postal 4, 70351-970 Brasilia DF,
BRAZIL.
To receive the QSL or the diploma via bureau, it is not necessary to
send
your QSL, but LABRE, defender of that tradition and courtesy existing
on
the world amateur radio, will feel very honored to receive the QSL
cards
of all participants. Stations making Ham Radio QSO with all the 27
stations
will receive automatically the Diploma WAB "Worked All Brazil",
without
request and without charge. For more details, see the rules of the
LABRE
Awards Program on the LABRE Web page at: http://labre.org.br
