October 2, 2014
A real build up toward the weekend with almost 3000 contacts reported on Saturday and 4250 on Sunday. Things are looking good. Even I managed to work a few on PSK31 and SSB.
Ty1AA and W1AW ruled the week with PJ5/OL8R (Sint Eustatius) popping up on Friday. The weekend W1AW, YS1/NP3J (El Salvador), V73NS (Marshall Is), ZD8RH (Ascension Is) and VK9AN
(Christmas Is) all figured highly.
Steven, 2E0NHR , managed to work TY1AA last Thursday. I’ve been trying for him but no luck so far. Tuesday he managed A41LD 5/7 (FM)29.510 and CX3TQ 5/5. He says,
“Only 2 for me Tuesday but both well worth it, 2 new countries and was very pleased to QSO with Walheed A41LD using FM mode...magic, hopefully we will hear some US AM stations on 29mhz again this year.”

Steve, M0STC , worked A61SM 5/7 on Sunday. But he answers a question from a few weeks back.
“The other week you were asking about my Yaesu G-450C rotator. It was new, and I also got a GS-065 thrust bearing. I already had a steel scaffold pole fixed to the wall of the house, with three very strong brackets. The aluminium rotating antenna pole is then mounted parallel to that. It goes through the thrust bearing, which is fixed to the top of the steel pole, about 1.5M above the house gutter. The rotator is also mounted on the steel pole, a bit below gutter height. (Brackets for this are available from a well known amateur radio supplier.) This arrangement means that you avoid having the heavy rotator up at (or near) antenna height. The antenna itself is about 1.5M above the thrust bearing. No guying is required at this height, but it would need guying if I put it much higher (which I might one day). Have you made any progress on your beam, and how are you intending to mount it?”

I’ve not made any progress. We now have a dog which chews everything, so working space is difficult, but I was thinking of something like you have described. If you have pictures they would we useful.
PY3NL, Fernando , worked LU8HH , F5OUX , CE3/DL8LR on Tuesday.
He also heard PY2WFG (beacon) on 28.2033MHz grid locator GG77FF. Thanks for that Fernando, please send us anything that you work or hear.

Sun: There are eight sunspot groups on the Earth side of the sun.
Fully half of them pose a threat for strong solar flares. An eruption today could come from any of the circled regions:
AR2175 is the most potent of
the quartet. It has a 'beta-gamma-delta' magnetic field that harbours energy for X-class solar flares. The other three have "beta-gamma" magnetic fields that pose a threat for lesser albeit still powerful M-flares. The sunspot of greatest interest is AR2177 because it is turning toward Earth.

Stoke duly beat Newcastle United 1- 0. I watched it on TV, it should have been a much higher score. We was robbed of a penalty! Still it’s the 3 points that matter. Sunderland away next, we could do with beating them, we have once this season already.
