Bouvet Island (AN-002) is ranked number 3 in the DX Magazine's 2013

5R, MADAGASCAR (5R8M Press Release #001). Mediterraneo DX Club
reported
on Friday, October 17th [edited]: "In less than few days, 5R8M, Nosy
Be
Island (AF-057) the DXpedition organized by the Mediterraneo DX Club,
in
Madagascar from October 21st to November 4th, will be on air.
Recently we have had new great arrivals and now our complete team,
with
so many well know and experienced guys, is the following:

The whole team is very motivated and so ready to work hard 24/24
hours
each day to give the greatest number possible of DXers from all over
the world the greatest number of possible new ones, bands/modes, with
four
stations (2 CW-1 SSB and 1 RTTY) plus maybe a mixed station more and
really daily time monitoring the Six MEters Propagation.
If, as all of us wish, the internet connection will allow it on our
official Web-site <www.mdxc.org/5r8m/> , we'll keep in touch every
day
with the DX community and we'll update our log in real time.
During our permanence on Nosy Be, we kindly ask you to send any
question
only to our pilots IK7JTF (for Europa), N1DG (for USA) and IK0FTA for
Six
MEters.
We'd like just to remind you that any help and donations will be
very
very appreciated because all the planned costs are already increased
at
the check-in for the luggage weight and the severe rules of the
airline.
We suggest that you spend a minute time to time visiting our Web site
<www.mdxc.org/5r8m/> to stay tuned and to insert your
comments, suggestions,
etc. We are waiting for you on air.... 73's de 5R8M team"
AFRICAN TOURS (Update). As mentioned last week, Nick, G3RWF, is
heading
back to Southern Africa for a 5 week holiday starting in Lesotho and
being
active as 7P8NH between December 11-14th. Nick informs OPDX that this
is
"real holiday" with the entire family coming to Southern African
between
Christmas and the New Year. However, he will be there longer with his
wife, Liz. Nick states [edited], "I shall be on the air from South
Africa
from about December 18th to January 5th as ZS1/G3RWF, and then from
Namibia
from about January 6-13th as V5/G3RWF. All CW only (taking my K2)."
Listen
for him on the higher bands on CW (no SSB). He "doesn't anticipate any
80m
or 160m (and not 6m for those who always ask)." Nick also mentioned
one
other thing to OPDX that his 7P8 license is good for a year and he
may
well return there sometime not too far off. QSL via G3RWF.
C3, ANDORRA. Members of the "Andorran Amateur Radio Union (URA)" will
once again be active as C37NL during the CQWW DX SSB Contest (October
25-26th) as a Multi-2 entry. QSL via C37URA.
C6, BAHAMAS (IOTA Op). John, 9H5G (KK4OYJ), will be active as C6ATS
from the Bahamas's IOTA during winter 2014 and spring 2015. He
informs
OPDX [edited], "Largely the operation will be similar to last year's
9H5G/C6A operation. This year we intend to be in the Bahamas from
about
Thanksgiving time through the end of April. We are traveling by
sailboat
but all operations (except the /MM) shall be from land and will
therefore
count for DXCC and IOTA. However, we will be subject to the weather
and
I shall be operating beach-side and 'vacation style'. There are
therefore
no hard and fast dates. However, I shall endeavor to operate from all
the IOTA groups and on the bands in my blog. Obviously on contest
weekends,
I shall operate on the WARC bands. I intend to operate a number of
modes
including RTTY, PSK, SSB and perhaps even even some JT-65. To keep
abreast
of what's happening, I recommend subscribing to my Twitter feed
(@KK4OYJ)
and my blog. I prefer to post there rather than writing E-mail to
many
addressees since its immediately available for all to see. I will
endeavor
to keep the blog updated as we travel around!" On John's Blog, he
mentions
the following IOTA groups: Great Bahama Bank group (NA-001), South
Bahamas
group (NA-113), Berry Islands (NA-054) and Bimini Islands (NA-048).
John
states, "Some of these are rarer than others, but since I will be
traveling
by boat, I am required to validate NA-054 and NA-048 through the IOTA
Committee. I also hope to activate some islands that are not on the
list,
even although they seem to qualify (Hogsty Reef)..... I hope to have
more
information on this soon." He will be using a TS-480HX or K3 with
Vertical
dipoles on 17/15/12/10m and maybe 20m. Power from a deep-cycle 5035Ah
battery recharged daily. Logs will be uploaded to LoTW, Clublog and
to
NI5DX as time and available internet permits. He will not always be
able
to update the Grid Square there remotely - you may have to enter the
information in your software manually. QSL direct to Buzz, NI5DX. An
OQRS
on ClubLog is active for this callsign - if you need a bureau card,
please
request it through the OQRS and he will sent it when he can -
probably
also once per year. For a more responsive paper QSL, please QSL via
NI5DX
who operates a very timely service. For more details and possibly
updates
of his activities, visit his Blog or Twitter page at:
CO, CUBA. Frank, CO2IR, will be active during the CQWW DX SSB
(October
25-26th) and CQWW DX CW (November 29-30th) Contests as a Single-Op/
Single-Transmitter/Single-Band (20m)/QRP entry. Frank states, "I will
be also active especially on CW after and before the contests. QSL

CQ NEWS RELEASE (CQ Policy Statement on Stations in Crimea Using
Russian-
Issued Call Signs in CQ Contests) [Hicksville, NY - October 17, 2014] --
"After considerable deliberation, CQ has determined that the best
course
of action regarding Crimea and CQ contests is to follow the lead of
the
United Nations and the United States government, both of which
continue
to consider Crimea to be part of Ukraine, until such time as the
political
situation there is resolved. Therefore,
'Logs will not be accepted for any CQ contest from stations in
Crimea
operating with Russian-issued call signs. Contacts made by others
with
those stations will be removed from contestants' logs without
penalty.
No contact or multiplier credits will be given.'
We fully realize that our action may very well disenfranchise several
Crimean contesters who use Russian prefixes instead of Ukrainian
prefixes.
As regrettable as that may be, our action is consistent with
international
law, as well as with our own Rules."

and Rey/CO2RQ. Activity will be from the National Association for
Amateur
Radio of Cuba (FRC) station. QSL via EA7FTR.
TX5, AUSTRAL ISLANDS. Wayne, KK6BT, informs OPDX that he will be
active
as TX5W from Raivavae Island (IOTA OC-114) in the Austral Islands
group
between January 5-11th (2015). Activity will be on 40-10 meters,
including
the 17/12 meter bands, operating exclusively SSB. His primary objective
is
to work as many amateurs in Central and Northern Europe as possible.
Wayne states, "I will provide more details, including my website and
QSL
information, in the following weeks."
TX7, MARQUESAS ISLANDS (Reminder). By the time you read this,
operators
Jared/N7SMI, Grant/KZ1W, Keith/VE7KW and Don/VE7DS will be active as
TX7G
from Hatiheu Village, Nuku Hiva, Marquesas (OC-027), until October
26th.
Activity will be on 80-10 meters using SSB and RTTY, with high power
to
verticals right on the beach. They will focus on lower bands favoring
difficult propagation paths to provide as many amateurs the
opportunity
to get Marquesas in their log as possible. They will also be on the
air
for the CQWW DX SSB Contest (October 25-26th) from Zone 31. ClubLog
OQRS
is STRONGLY RECOMMENDED for direct, LoTW, Bureau and eQSL cards. QSL
cards
will be a beautiful full-color photo-graphic quality. A QSL priority
list
is available (recommended to view it), on their Web page at: http://TX7G.com
VK9L, LORD HOWE ISLAND (Press Release). Christian, DL1MGB, reported
on
Thursday, October 16th: "Sorry for being inactive on the news site.
The
last days we were very busy in erecting all the stations and
antennas.
But now we have a setup which produces good signals around the world
and
also allows us to work on some bands parallel in two modes.
Especially
having two stations on one band is not an easy task on a 'limited'
property
of 5 acres.
At the moment our setup consists of 9 stations (yes, we already lost
one
transceiver; investigations are ongoing). Each station is equipped with
a
Elecraft K3, amplifier, notebook, microHAM MK2 interface and a lot
more
accessories. The antenna field consists of 16 antennas: Titanex
vertical
V160E for 160m, a full-size 4-square for 80m, a 4-square and a VDA on
40m
and 30m, 2 3ele yagis on 20m and a yagi and a VDA for the bands from
17m
to 10m. Also the first beverage to Europe is up for low band
operations.
On 160m we still have a RX problem. Of course the conditions are not
the
best for the low bands these days, but with a S7 noise level it makes
it
even harder to copy those weak signals. We try to locate the source
to
make a serious low band operation.
Yesterday morning we had a heavy rain fall. 20 cm of rain came down
within
one hour. We even had a water ingress in one of our shacks, but were able
to
fight against it with towels and buckets. The main thing: The antennas
did
survive the storm.
Regarding 6m we try to put up the antenna the next days. No special
plans
for this.
Online log will be uploaded twice per day as internet connections
permits.
So far there are over 33,000 QSOs in the log.

VK9X, CHRISTMAS ISLAND (Reminder/Update). A Polish team of operators
are
now active as VK9XSP from Christmas Island (OC-002) until October
31st.
Activity will be on 160-6 meters using CW, SSB and RTTY. Suggested
frequencies are listed in OPDX.1168 or can be found at:
They will have two to three stations on the air 24 hours a day, and
pay
special attention to the lower bands and to areas where VK9X is the
most
difficult to work from. Also, look for one station to be in the CQWW
DX
SSB Contest (October 25-26th). QSL via SP6EQZ. For more details and
updates, watch: http://www.vk9xsp.dxing.pl
VQ9, CHAGOS. Bob, N7XR, who is expected to be active as VQ9XR from
Diego
Garcia Island (AF-006), reports that he is not sure when he will be
active
and states, "My dates are like a super-ball, bouncing all over the
place.
Can't get the guy to submit the entry approval correctly which is
delaying
the trip. It's going to happen, that's for sure." Look for possible
updates
YE2, INDONESIA. Members of the ORARI Semarang Contesting Team will be
