Special Event Station GB2 SPR

After last week’s very successful MN0 VFW Club activation from Navan Fort, Co Armagh, for International Marconi Day, the Mid Ulster Amateur Radio Club will be out again this weekend for Craigavon Borough Council from the Discovery Centre, Oxford Island, on the southern shores of Lough Neagh.

This activation will be embracing the spirit of the Council’s two day ‘The Good Life’ – sustainability event, by hopefully running on solar power.

The plan is to arrange a bank of solar panels to trickle charge a couple of 12v deep cycle batteries, hopefully providing enough power for a moderate station to stay on air throughout the event.

The Club will be operating on both Saturday 27th and Sunday 28th April, between the hours of 10.00 and 16.30 on each day using the call-sign GB2SPR (Solar Powered Radio) and plan to be active on the hf bands subject to conditions. A 2m station will also be operational for local interest.

Hopefully the sun will shine for at least some of the time, although with typical Northern Ireland weather, the sooner someone invents a rain powered radio the better!

Our summer events calendar is now in full flow, with many Club activities planned to take place throughout the season.
