21/02/2014: Bill, W4WV, and Ed, KN4KL, will be active again from Guantanamo Bay
(NA-015, WLOTA 0358) as KG4WV and KG4KL, repectively. QRV from 21st February and

21/02/2014: Carlos, LU8DCH/D, joins the South America Lighthouse Weekend (21-23
February) from the island and lighthouse Martin Garcia (SA-055, ARLHS ARG-045).

21/02/2014: Operators Vassilis, SV1CNS, Ioannis, SV1EIW, Michalis, SV1ONV,

21/02/2014: Orlando, PT2OP, plans his participation in the South America
LH-Weekend (21-23 February) with the call ZZ8S. QTH is the lighthouse (ARLHS

22/02/2014: Paul, ON6DP, activates the Fort de Dave (WCA ON-00488, BCA NM-056)
as OO6DP/p on the 22nd of February 2014. QRV on the HF bands. QSL via ON6DP,

22/02/2014: Thomas, AA9A, will once again be active as PJ7AA from the island of
Sint Maarten (NA-105, WLOTA 0711) between 22 February and 16 March 2014. QRV on

23/02/2014: Members of Radio Club Provincial Llanquihue (CE7LL) plan to be
active as 3G7PM from Isla Guafo (IOTA SA-018, Grid Loc. FE26), and lighthouse
(ARLHS CHI-021, TWLHD WLH CE-020, WLOTA 1522), commune of Quellon, Chiloe
province, Los Lagos region, southern Chile, between 23-28 February, 2014. Note:

24/02/2014: Look for Klaus, DK1AX and Heidi, DK1MA to be active holiday style
as A35AX from Tongatapu (OC-049) and Vava'u (OC-064), between 24 February and 7
March 2014. Plans are to be active on the HF bands using CW, SSB and RTTY. QSL

24/02/2014: Werner, DJ9KH, will be active as ZD8D from Ascension Island
(AF-003, WLOTA 1491) between 24th February and 11th March 2014, including an
entry in the ARRL DX SSB Contest (1-2 March). QRV holiday-style mainly on
160-40m (with options on 60m and 6m) in CW. During the second week of his stay
Werner will be joined by Axel, DK9BDN (he has received the call ZD8BDN, but both
operators plan a joint effort as ZD8D). Wolf, DK1IP, will act as their pilot

25/02/2014: Alan, G3XAQ, will return to Kampala, Uganda, and operate as 5X1XA
between 25th February and 16 March 2014. CW only activity on the HF bands. Alan
will also participate in the RSGB Commonwealth Contest (8-9 March). QSL via

25/02/2014: Kaz, JA1IST, will be active from Noumea, New Caledonia (OC-032,

25/02/2014: John, KF0RQ, will return to Phnom Penh, Cambodia, on a DX vacation
between 25 February and 21 March 2014, using the callsign XU7ACQ. QRV on 40-10m

26/02/2014: Elmo, EA5BYP will be active from Isla de Annobon (AF-039, WLOTA
0174) as 3C0BYP between 26th February and 8th March 2014. QRV on the HF bands

26/02/2014: Bill, N6MW, will be active as V73MW from the Long Island Hotel,
Majuro Beach, Majuro Atoll (OC-029), Ratak Chain, Republic of the Marshall
Islands, between 26th February and 4th March 2014. The emphasis will be on 160
and 80 metre CW with some 20m RTTY and possible 17m SSB gap fillers. The latter
bands may turn out to be largely times when EU is available since operations
will dominantly be at local night time. QSL via M0URX ONLY: by OQRS preferred

27/02/2014: Dom, M1TKA, will be active from The Gambia as C5/M1KTA between 27th

28/02/2014: Silvano, I2YSB and his team (Vinicio IK2CIO, Angelo IK2CKR,
Marcello IK2DIA, Stefano IK2HKT, Alfeo I1HJT and Mac JA3USA) will be active as
9J2T from Zambia from 28th February to 17th March 2014. They will operate CW,
SSB and RTTY on 160-6 metres. QSL via I2YSB and LoTW. Further information,

LOOKING AHEAD -

01/03/2014: Look for special event station 8N2HHH to be active on all bands and
modes between 1st March and 16th June 2014 for the Hamanako Flower Expo (or Hana
Haku) 2014 / The 31st Japan Parks and Urban Green Fair in Shizuoka-city (JCC
1801). Shizuoka-city is located in Shizuoka prefecture, Chubu region, on the
island of Honshu (AS-007, WLOTA 2376), Japan. [JJ1WTL/AC6IM]

05/03/2014: Between 5-11th March 2014 look for the following stations to be
active to celebrate ARRL's centennial year: W1AW/4 operated by Tim N4GN located
in the city of Louisville, Jefferson County, State of Kentucky and W1AW/7
operated by Scott K7ZO located in the city of Boise, Ada County, State of Idaho.

12/03/2014: From 12-18th March 2014 look for the following stations to be
active to celebrate ARRL's centennial year: W1AW/7 operated by Ed AA7A located
in the city of Scottsdale, Maricopa County, State of Arizona and W1AW/8 operated
by Steve N8BJQ located in the city of New Carlisle, Champaign County, State of

19/03/2014: From 19-25th March 2014 look for the following stations to be
active to celebrate ARRL's centennial year: W1AW/4 operated by Ned K1GU located
in the city of Friendsville, Blount County, State of Tennessee and W1AW/5
operated by Bruce AA5B located in the city of Albuquerque, Bernalillo County,

25/03/2014: Ofcom have advised that licensed amateurs with a main station
address in Scotland will be permitted to use the special prefix "A" - GA, MA,
2A - instead of the usual "M" for the period of 25th January (Burns Night) to
30th November (St. Andrews Day), during 2014. GMDX (www.gmdx.org.uk) will be
instituting an award scheme for working these special prefixes throughout the

26/03/2014: Between 26th March and 1st April 2014 look for the following
stations to be active to celebrate ARRL's centennial year: W1AW/0 operated by
Jason NR0X located in La Porte City, Black Hawk County, State of Iowa and W1AW/1
operated by Mitch W1SJ located in the city of Essex, Chittenden County, State of

SPECIAL EVENTS -

21/02/2014: I, Italy - Michele, IZ7XNB, and the Barivm DX Team will celebrate
Marconi's first radio contact between Bari in Italy and Bar in Montenegro with
the call IY7M. The prefix IY is only issued for stations commemorating Marconi's

21/02/2014: LU, Argentina - AY1DZ will be put on the air all year long in
honour of Alberto, LU1DZ, wo died in December 2013. QSL via LW3DG, LoTW and

21/02/2014: OM, Slovak Republic - Roman, OM3TOW, member of staff of the
Slovakian telecommunication authority will use the special call OM44LTE all year
long to mark the introduction of the 4th generation LTE standard for mobile

Mellish Reef 2014

Congratulations to the FT5ZM team for their excellent operation.

Mellish Reef DX-pedition is scheduled for March 28, 2014 to April 9, 2014.

Status:
Our equipment is on the way to Australia and the team is making last minute
preparations for their journey to Australia. An advance team will arrive in
Mackay, Australia on March 18th to begin the process of retrieving equipment
from storage and preparing for the sea voyage. We'll be assembling several
antennas for final tuning and to verify all the parts arrived. The generators
will be tested and prepared for sea shipment. We'll have 2 small generators,
1.5KW each and 4 new 4KW inverters. Antennas will include two 18 meter
SpiderPoles w/auto-tuners in the water using specially designed bases loaned to
us by George Wallner, AA7JV who was on Mellish Reef with the 2009 DX-pedition, 2
folding hex beams, and several SteppIR BigIR and CrankIR antennas. We have an
Inmarsat Broadband Global Area Network (BGAN) satellite terminal for uploading
logs daily to our QSL manager, as well as photos - if time permits. LoTW will be
uploaded shortly after we return home.

Donation to local Boy / Girl Scout Council:
At the conclusion of the DX-pedition locally purchased items such as tents,
tarps and tools will be donated to the Mackay City Central (Boy / Girl) Scout
Council. We've arranged for them to help us with the disposition of gear that
would be too expensive to ship to EU or the US.

Leaderboard:
After a team discussion the Leaderboard will not be used for VK9MT.

Global Pilot Team:
The pilot team will manage communication between the island team and DXers.
While on the island we will not be checking personal e-mail accounts. Please
direct operational suggestions to the designated pilot for your region. The
Pilots will not have the logs so please do not ask them to verify QSOs. If you
think your call is missing or busted while we are on the reef please work us
again. After we leave the reef direct all logging questions to our QSL Manager,

Upcoming Hamfest Season:
Several members of the VK9MT on-island team will be attending the Dayton
Hamvention and the Friedrichshafen Ham Radio - International Exhibition for
Radio Amateurs, as well as local ham club meetings and conventions.

Fund Raising:
We are honored to receive a grant from the ARRL's Colvin Award Committee. The
Colvin Award is funded by an endowment established by Lloyd Colvin, W6KG (SK),
who, with his wife Iris, W6QL (SK), logged more than 1 million contacts during
their world travels, and assembling one of the largest QSL collections in the
world.

working as an Operations Coordinator on the island for two months at a time. He
plans to get on the air as CY0/VA1AXC, using equipment left by the CY0P team in
October last year. Please be patient with Aaron, he already got his ham ticket

Taehuksan Island (AS-093) -
Kang, DS4DRE, announces a long term activation of Taehuksan Island (AS-093)
as DS4DRE/4. QRV until the year's end on 80-10m in SSB and CW. QSL via DS4DRE

ZD9M, Gough Island -
Pierre, ZS1HF takes up the position of radio technician on Gough Island
(AF-030) after the passing of the current radio technician. The polar supply
ship will hopefully depart Cape Town for Gough during the week 19 to 21 Feb
2014. QSL Manager is ZS1A. More details soon. Pierre's previous tour of duty was
as ZS8M on Marion Island during 2010 / 2011. [DX World]
