Need Beginners Advice / VHF Antenna

Hello all,

I’ve done a lot of reading and realized I may have purchased the wrong antennas for my set up on my work truck. I’m using a Btech 5001 with a Nagoya UT-72 @ around 160mhz to communicated with other radios at my job.

I was disappointed with my RX range at a distance so, before doing my proper research, i ordered a Nagoya TB-320A 39 inch as an “upgrade”. Later, after educating my self some, I realized it may be a poor choice as it is a tri band antenna that I will not be utilizing the 220mhz on.

I’ve struggled to understand the 1/4 wave, 1/2 wave etc etc in trying to purchase a new antenna.

Am I better off sticking with my UT72? Was the TB320 a waste of money with no gain?
