(IOTA AS-118), 20 km off the coast of Kuwait City in the Persian Gulf, on 21st
and 22nd March 2014. He plans to be QRV on the high bands running 500 Watts. QSL

21/03/2014: Look for Zhang, BA3AX and Lu, BD3AEO to be active as B3/BA3AX and
B3/BD3AEO, respectively, from Yuetuo [Yue Tuo] Island (AS-134), Leting county,
HeBei province, China, between 21-24 March, 2014. Plans are to be QRV with focus

21/03/2014: Dragan, 4O4A, is currently in located in Mazar village, Badakhshan
Province in north-eastern Afghanistan. Having received his T6DD callsign, look

21/03/2014: Mike, W1USN (RNARS #3889) and Bob, AA1M will be QRV from Costa de
Pajaros, Costa Rica, between 21 March and 1 April as TI8/home call. Operations
will be 80-10m SSB, CW, PSK-31 and maybe some RTTY. Mike will be operating the
CQWW WPX SSB Contest during the weekend of 29-30th March. All QSL's for both

Island (AF-027, DIFO FH-001, WLOTA 0376) between 21 March and 4 April, 2014. QRV

21/03/2014: Junichi, JH3AEF (XT2AEF) Jusei JA3IVU (XT2IVU) and Yukinori, JA3VWT
(XT2VWT) will be active from Ouagadougou, the capital city of Burkina Faso,
between 21-26 March, 2014. They plan activity on 80-10 metre CW, SSB and the

21/03/2014: Operators Barry ZS1FJ-9V1FJ-ZL1MFW-G4MFW, Sandro VE7NY, Franz
OE2SNL and Graham ZL1BMG will be active as ZL7AAA from Chatham Island (OC-038,
WLOTA 1627) between 21-31 March, 2014. The stations will be on the air 7 days
per week, 24 hours per day in 6-hour shifts per operator. QRV on all bands from

22/03/2014: Olivier ON4EI, one of the top European contester, is back to
Ireland (EU-115, WLOTA 2484) to operate EI8GQB and EI1A during the CQWW WPX SSB
Contest from 22nd March to 2nd April, 2014. In 2013, Olivier scored, with EI1A,
tops Europe in CQ WW WPX, IARU HF and IOTA contests in Low Power Single Op SSB
category using green energy only and its Field Day style antenna park. 18m top
loaded vertical monopole for 160-80m-40m bands + 32 radials. Inverted V dipole
for 160-80m-40m bands. 3 elements East-West two-direction inverted V beam for
40m band. 200m long beverage RX antenna East-West directional. 2 x Spiderbeam
antennas for 20/15/10m bands. Rigs are Elecraft K3+P3 & Kenwood TS2000 100W.

23/03/2014: John, VK6HZ, will once again be active as VK6ARI from Rottnest

25/03/2014: John, W2GD, plans activity once again from near Santa Cruz, island

SPECIAL EVENTS -

22/03/2014: Members of the Associazione Radioamatori Marinai Italiani --
Italian Amateur Radio Association Section of Taranto (IQ7UJ), Italian Sailors
and Navy announced that an exclusive amateur radio will be on board Naval Unit
of the Navy Luigi Durand de la Penne between March 22-23rd, using the special
callsign II7LDP/MM (ARMI-1111). Activity is to celebrate the 100th anniversary
of the birth of Admiral Luigi Durand de la Penne, decorated with the Gold Medal
for Military Valour for heroic action taken December 19, 1941, during the
Company of Alexandria, one of the most important in the history ship. Operators
mentioned are Frank IZ7AUH, Fabrizio IZ7LDC, Antonio IK7WDS, Simplicio IK7EJT

24/03/2014: During the 3rd Nuclear Security Summit in The Hague
https://www.nss2014.com/en on 24th and 25th March 2014, the delegations do stay
at various locations near The Hague, including in Noordwijk. On the occasion of
the residence of the U.S. delegation and President Obama, PA6USA is activated
from 24th March to 18th April, 2014. With this callsign, we indicated our

25/03/2014: Ofcom have advised that licensed amateurs with a main station
address in Scotland will be permitted to use the special prefix "A" - GA, MA,
2A - instead of the usual "M" for the period of 25th January (Burns Night) to
30th November (St. Andrews Day), during 2014. GMDX (www.gmdx.org.uk) will be
instituting an award scheme for working these special prefixes throughout the

BITS & PIECES -

FUNcube-1 Transponder test Saturday -
There will be a test on the 435/145 MHz linear transponder this Saturday March
22
When in sunlight FUNcube-1 is normally in "Educational Mode" (transponder off
with high power beacon) but on Saturday, March 22, 2014 at approximately 0930 UT
the FUNcube team are planning to switch to "Amateur Mode" (transponder on with
low power beacon) for at least one whole orbit.
The aim of the switch on March 22 is to check the effect on the satellite of
continuous "Amateur Mode", especially battery temperature.

NAQCC FL Chapter Operation -
The Florida Chapter of NAQCC is holding their March Field Event in Lake Helen
Florida on Friday 03-21-2014 from 9 AM-ish to Noon-ish. (We're all old and
approach time in a more casual manner than we used to - and, after all, this IS
Florida you know.) Steve WB4OMM #5913, Art WB4MNK #5274, Wally KG4LAL #6278 and
Don K3RLL #1905 will somehow be switching around to cover 7.040+, 10.116,

Radio ham operating from research vessel as DL1LLL/MM -
Lars Lehnert, DL1LLL is back on the German research vessel Maria S Merian and
will be operating in the 160-10m amateur radio bands using SSB and digital
modes.
He will be traveling for four weeks on a scientific journey from Las Palmas,
Gran Canaria to Cadiz, Spain.
The German research vessel Maria S. Merian is named after the naturalist and
illustrator Maria Sybilla Merian and is an interdisciplinary research platform
built in 2006.
The Rostock-based research vessel is used by the Leibniz Institute for Baltic
Sea Research at Warnemünde for marine research work.
Its tasks are Arctic research, research on the Gulf Stream, and seabed
research to a depth of 10 km. It has a crew of 21, and can additionally
accommodate 22 scientists. The vessel is equipped with several laboratories.
