CQ PRESS RELEASE. Rich, W2VU, CQ's Editorial Director, sent out the
following on March 5th [edited]: Dave Chartock Named CQ Advertising
Manager -- CQ Communications President Richard Ross, K2MGA, today announced
the appointment of David Chartock to head the company's advertising depart-
ment, effective immediately. Dave will guide CQ magazine's advertising
sales as the magazine charts new ground as a part-print, part-digital
"hybrid" publication covering the entire communications hobby.
"The main print and digital edition of CQ continues to focus on amateur
radio," explained Editorial Director Rich Moseson, W2VU, "while the online-
only CQ Plus supplement to the digital edition of CQ covers the full
spectrum of hobby radio communications, from shortwave listening and
scanning to broadcast band DXing and more."
Chartock has more than 25 years' experience in publishing, both in
editorial and sales positions. From 1989 to 2002, he was Editor-in-Chief
and Web Content Editor of the trade magazine, New York Construction News.
Since 2002, Chartock has been an independent sales representative, working
with start-up publications and the annual journal of New York's Concrete
Industry Board. He lives in Flushing, New York.
"We welcome Dave to our staff," said CQ Publisher Dick Ross, K2MGA,

DAYLIGHT SAVING TIME (DST). Did you remember to change your clocks?
Countries in the Northern Hemisphere (most of N. American and some of
the Caribbean) who observe Daylight Saving Time should have changed their
clocks on Sunday, March 9th at 2:00 AM, and should have moved their "local
clocks" forward 1 hour to 3:00:00 AM local time. Daylight Saving Time
will end on Sunday, November 2nd at 2:00 AM. European countries will
switch to DST on March 30th. For the history and details about DST,
as well as an interesting map of the world (showing the countries who
ADDED NOTES: Hopefully, all amateur radio operators know not to change
their GMT/UTC/ZULU clocks. However, since most operators usually set their
computers to local time, some may have to change their settings on "some"
ham radio software (ex. logging, propagation, DXTelnet, etc..) programs.

FT4T, TROMELIN (Press Release #2) [edited]: "The Amsterdam DXpedition has
been the focus of many DXers in the last few weeks. Our friends are now
back home with more than 170,000 contacts in the log. Congratulations!
While waiting for the update of their website you can find some superb
pictures and a short article on the TAAF's Web site:
Concerning Tromelin 2014, a lot of work has been done since our previous
press release.
First of all, we are extremely proud and grateful of the mobilization
of the amateur radio community. We want to thank the major sponsors who
joined our project. In the same way, a large number of smaller clubs have
shown much generosity. You can find all our contributors on the dedicated
The budget is not balanced yet and all kinds of help will be necessary
to make this expedition possible.
It is important to understand how logistical constraints related to
transport are the major element in the organization of our operation. A
few days ago, a member of the team met with our plane pilot who showed
him the aircraft that we will be using. Together, they dealt with the
problems of the transportation of the team and equipment. As of today,
all is in order from a material and administrative point of view.
Also, in the next few weeks, we will reach for certain suppliers,
manufacturers in order to provide us with equipment offering the best
weight, reliability and performance ratio.
Work also continues with the TAAF authorities. The list of the topics
to deal with is relatively long, but since day one all our interlocutors
have been very receptive, reactive, and have provided an invaluable help.
The hamradio callsigns used on the territories managed by the TAAF are
issued by their services on the Reunion Island.
FT4TA (Fox Tango Four Tango Alpha) has been issued to us for our operation
from October 30th to November 10th, 2014.
The pilot stations setup is being organized and will be revealed very
soon. Schedules are being tweaked thanks to the forecasts and contributions
of all.
We are waiting for the return of Michel, FM5CD, member of FT5ZM,
<http://www.amsterdamdx.org/> in order to use his input from his last
operation.
New communications will follow, more specifically on the 'radio' aspects
of the expedition. At the same time, we are preparing a series of articles
for our website which will help you discover the Scattered Islands (Iles
Eparses in French) and more particularly our final destination.

More than ever, stay tuned…
The Tromelin 2014 team"

S0, WESTERN SAHARA. A few media sources are reporting that a new operator
named Azman Hafed "Man" will be active as S01AH from Bir Lehlu (WW. Loc.
IL56HB) soon. QSL via EA2JG. It was also mentioned on "Twitter": "Naama,
S01A will operate 60 mts, 5403.5 kHz in March." Reportedly, Naama has a
license to operate on 60m and will be looking for states. It is suggested
to watch the following for updates and news:
LAST MINUTE UPDATE: As this was being prepared for print Sunday morning,
Naama, S01A, showed up on 15 meters SSB around 1345z.

VK9 DX-VACATION. A JA team is planning to be active from Christmas
Island (VK9X) and Cocos-Keeling Island (VK9C) sometime between late
July and early August. Operators mentioned are Masa/JA3FVJ, JA3QWN,
Ikuo/JA3TJA, Masato/JF3PLF and Taka/JH3FUK. Currently, callsigns have
not been announced. Their tentative schedule is as followings:
VK9C (Cocos Keeling) - between July 29th and August 2nd; IOTA OC-002
VK9X (Christmas Island) - between August 2-8th; IOTA OC-003

Activity will be holiday style on 160-6 meters using CW, SSB, FM,
RTTY and PSK31. QSL via JF3PLF, direct or by the Bureau (within one
year of operation!). Uploads to LoTW or ClubLog will be available after
their operation (Highly recommended). A Web page is available, but is
still under construction at: http://vk9.nobody.jp/index.html

VU4, ANDAMAN ISLANDS (Update/Reminder). Krish, W4VKU, will be active as
VU4K from Port Blair between March 23-30th. Activity will be on 80-10
meters using SSB and RTTY. Suggested frequencies are:
SSB - 3680*, 7095, 14180, 18145, 21280, 24945 and 28480 kHz
RTTY - 3584*, 7044, 10142, 10142, 14084, 18104, 21084, 24922 and 28084 kHz
*80m is a possibility depending on the type of vertical antenna in use.

He will have a 2 element SteppIR + 30/40m, Acom 1000 and may be a Butter-
nut Vertical antenna (equipment in use is subject to change, should there
be any change to the location plans). Krish informed Carl, N4AA, of "QRZ
DX" that he plans on "traveling to other islands including Nicobar for
some logistics" before he starts the VU4K operations. Krish also posted
on "DX-World.net" the following: "We will call the following categories
from time to time.
a) Folks needing VU4 and are 65 years and older
b) ATNO callers
c) QRP callers

We will also periodically call for geographies to maximize the band
openings. Now for (a) above, I assume folks will stick to the HONOR
SYSTEM. If I suspect abuse, I will need a proof of age for a QSL and
will not do OQRS for those contacts and will only do paper mail. The
reason I chose to call for (a) is because there are several folks that
are in the 70's and all the way to 90's that want VU4 for their last
few. Some have written to me about their need, and I want to help them
out. So I hope the DXer community understands. If you believe there can
be an issue, please drop me a note. Will try to not encourage bandfills
as much as possible. Please reserve Bandfills for a larger operation
down the road."
QSL via W4VKU (OQRS will be open in early April 2014). Logs: Realtime
logs will be available via ClubLog.

WP2, U.S. VIRGIN ISLANDS (NA-106). Bob, WP2XX, and possibly others will
be active from the Island Villa Contest Club WP2Z superstation on St.
Croix during the CQWW WPX SSB Contest (March 29-30th). QSL via KU9C.

YS, EL SALVADOR. Hiro, JA6WFM, is now active as YS1/NP3J from San Salvador
until the end of 2014. Activity has been on 80-6 meters using CW and SSB.
QSL via EA5GL.

ZY7, BRAZIL. Members of the Campina Amataeur Radio DX Group (CARDX) will
activate Serra do Jatobá Summit (750m, Grid Locator: HI12pm) as ZY7J for
only 24 hours, starting on March 15th and ending on March 16th. Activity
will be on all HF bands including the WARC bands. Operation is valid for
the SOTA Award. Operators mentioned are Alamo/PR7VX, Nicolas/PR7DX, Ramiro/
PR7RC, Fernando/PR7DB, Humberto/PR7HBA, Reno/PR7RBA, Christian/PR7ZAJ and
Renner/PU7EGC. QSL via PR7VX, direct or by the Bureau. For more details,
