“non-working” Kenwood TS-180S follow-up: it powers on!

Thanks for all the advice in the earlier thread. I opened it up and inspected the innards with a magnifying glass. I didn’t see any obvious signs of bad components or busted solder joints, so I rigged up a power cable and connected it to a 12V marine battery. It powers up and I can hear static on all bands.

Now I have to learn how to use it.
