The first issue of the DX Newsletter ("DX Mitteilungsblatt"), a flagship
publication of the DARC, was published sixty years ago to the day.
Therefore this jubilee issue was published a day ahead of the normal
schedule. A facsimile of the first issue is reproduced at the end of

5T, Mauritania:
Jean, ON8RA will take part in the CQ Manchester Mineira DX CW
Contest (April 19/20) of the "Grupo Juizforano de CW" (CWJF).
With this special callsign he's celebrating the new partnership
between Brazil and Mauritania. Outside the contest, he will be
QRV on 15/12/10m in CW - helping to keep Morse code alive.
Jean encourages everyone to visit the CWJF website and become
a member. QSL via PY4WAS.

Using his normal callsign 5T0JL, Jean/ON8RA resumed his
operation on March 1st, after he went QRT in December 2013.
His first QSO was made with Chris, F8DGY on 28 MHz. QSL via h/c.

7P, Lesotho:
An international team consisting of operators Marco, HB9OCR (7P8MH),
Charles, K5LBU (7P8CF), San, K5YY (7P8YY), Richard, K9APW (7P8RL),
Joel, N5JR (7P8JR), Chris G8APB (7P8CP), and Roger ZS6RJ (7P8RJ),
plan to operate from Roma in the Maseru district (Grid KG30) from
April 22nd to May 1st, from 21 MHz to 28 MHz mainly in SSB with
a little RTTY and CW. San will also be QRV on 30m during the nights.

9A, Croatia:
The 90th anniversary of the Zagreb radioclub is celebrated on
the air with the special event callsign 9A90Z until the end of
the year. An award is available. QSL via 9A3JB, LoTW/eQSL.

CE0Y, Easter Island:
Vladimir, UA4WHX, continued his trip and is now operating as
CE0Y/UA4WHX from Easter Island, matching the time of the year!
As usual, the length of his stay is unknown. QSL via UA4WHX.

CY0, Sable Island:
The CY0P DXpedition team donated a fully equipped station to
Aaron, VA1AXC, who is expected to return to Sable Island around
April 16th, depending on weather conditions. His station now
consists of a IC756PROIII with a transistor PA and wire antennas.

Postal rates in Canada have increased and an international
letter now costs about $2.50 while a letter to the US is $1.20.

D4, Cape Verde:
Joerg, DL3LUM/PA1MUC, will operate as D44TXU from Santa Maria on
Sal Island (AF-086) from April 19th to 25th, in holiday style.
Main activities will be on the high bands in CW with QRP (KX3,
vertical antenna). QSL via DL3LUM (bureau), or direct to PA1MUC.

DL, Germany:
On April 18th, the IARU's 89th anniversary will be celebrated.
The DARC district Mecklenburg-Vorpommern is planning to air
the special callsign DR89WARD (World Amateur Radio Day) from
April 15th to 25th from different locations, using the special
DOK "MVP". QSOs will be confirmed by bureau QSLs.

DP, Antarctica:
Holger, DH1HB, is active as DP0GVN/p from the "Sorasen Seismological
Observatory" (VNA3) with WAP (WAP DEU-12, WW Loc. IB58es).

G, England:
Members of the "Central Radio Amateur Circle" will get on the
air from "Barr Beacon" (WAB SP09) in the West Midlands with the
special callsign GB6BB during the Easter weekend (April 19/20).

HA, Hungary:
The special call HG100ATOM will be QRV until the end of the
year around running competitions of the "Atom 100 sorozat
versenyei" (Atom 100 series) by members of the "Paks Radio
Club" (HA3DX) and the "Radio Club Szekszard" (HA3KNA) on all
bands in all modes. A diploma is available. QSL via HA3KNA.

HI, Dominican Republikc:
Juergen, DL4SDW, will be QRV from the Dominican Republic from
April 18 to May 15, signing DL4SDW/HI3. The QTH is in Villa
Gonzales in the northern part of the country. Operation will be
on HF with 100W and wire antennas, mainly in CW. QSL via h/c,
bureau preferred.

HK0, San Andres:
Tim, LW9EOC, plans to activate San Andres Island (NA-033, WLOTA
2990, WWFF HKFF-035) from April 18 to 25 as 5J0T, from 80 - 10m
in CW and SSB. QSL via h/c, LoTW, eQSL.

A group of Columbian radio amateurs, consisting of Luis
HK3LEC, Jilmer, HK3UAV, Will, HK4IKL, Julio, HK5WUI, Ernesto,
HK7IPT, and Jorge, HK7JA, will be QRV as 5K0M from April 19
to 24 from 40m to 6m. Special thanks goes to the Columbian
Red Cross for their support. QSL via HK7IPT.

HP, Panama:
The Panama Canal, connecting the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans,
was opened in 1914. To celebrate its 100th anniversary, the special
callsign HO100CANAL will be on the air between April 19th and August
15 on all HF. The operating team includes Victor, HP1AVS, Alejandro,
HP1COO, Gustavo, HP1CPE, and Edwin, HP1DBK. QSL via HP1AVS, only

JA, Japan:
From April 20 to January 31, 2015, the amateur radio club Zushi (JA1YUU)
will celebrate its 60th anniversary on the air with the special call
8J1ZC.

KP4, Puerto Rico:
Look out for the "Puerto Rico Field Day Group" on April 18th, the
"World Amateur Radio Day" (WARD) as KP4FD. An award is available;
see QRZ.com for more information. QSL via LoTW and eQSL.

ON, Belgium:
For this year's "Erfgoeddag" (Heritage Day), members of the
Belgian Amateur Radio Society" (UBA) will be on the air with ten
special event callsigns, OS10M through OS19M, in order to support
the recognition of Morse code as UNESCO Intangible Cultural
Heritage. At the different locations of operation, visitors will
be able to learn about Morse Code, which includes the possibility
to build a simple Morse keyer kit.
The initiative to recognize Morse code as Intangible Cultural
Heritage is supported by the DARC - an overview of the activities

PA, Netherlands:
The 30th anniversary of the "Diplom Interessen Gruppe" in the
Netherlands will be celebrated with the special callsign PI30DIG
during the year. Activity periods include March 22 to April 18;
September 1 to 28 and finally December 3 to 31. The call will
also be active in all DIG activities (QSO Party, Roundtables).

S0, Western Sahara:
Arseli, EA2JG, reports that Naama, S01A, has obtained a license
for 60m and he's looking for US stations on 5403.5kHz. QSL via
EA2JG.

S7, Seychelles:
Pascal, F5JSD, will be operating from Mahe (AF-024, WLOTA 3286)
in holiday style as S79SD between April 15 and 25, on 40m-10m
(and 6m if conditions allow), mostly in CW. According to the local
regulations, he will transmit above 7050 kHz, and listen below
7030 kHz. He's working with 100W and a wire antenna.

SP, Poland:
The license for 3Z0WARD (World Amateur Radio Day) is valid for the
next ten years. Operator Dionizy, SP6IEQ plans to get on the air

3Z0SJP is a special callsign on the occasion of the canonisation
of Pope John Paul II and Pope John XXIII, active from April 20
to 27. QSL via SP9BRP.

The "Polski Klub Radiowideografii" (PK RVG) celebrates its 30th
jubilee with the callsigns SN30RVG and HF30RVG. A diploma is

The oldest Polish volunteer fire department in Kalisz, Greater
Poland Voivodeship, celebrates its 150th anniversary this year.
Since April and until May 6th, the special callsign 3Z150OSP

VK, Australia:
The "Westlakes Amateur Radio Club" (WARC) in Boolaroo, between
Sydney and Newcastle is looking back on a successful history of
50 years, which is celebrated in April with the unusual special
callsign VI2ATZ50 and a diploma. QSL via VK2ATZ.

W, USA:
The club station K7SEL will celebrate the 30th anniversary of the
"Swiss Engineering Laboratories" from April 19 to 27. QSL direct
only.

YW0A, Aves Island:
The organizers of the YW0A DXpedition are awaiting the "go" from
the Navy any time, for their planned 10 day trip to Aves.

ZS, South Africa:
Tom, ZS1AFS, and Sue, ZS1AFR, will operate as ZT1T on the higher
HF bands in holiday style until Easter. QSL via ZS1AFS.

World Amateur Radio Day:
The World Amateur Radio Day (WARD) is celebrated annually on
April 18th to remember the foundation of the IARU on this day
in 1925.

DXCC status Crimea (update of DXMB 1878):
According to Rule 4:
- A QSL with a call sign issued by the administration of Ukraine
and showing the entity name as Ukraine counts as Ukraine.
- A QSL with a call sign issued by the administration of Russia
and showing the entity name as Russia counts as Russia.
- A QSL that satisfies neither condition does not count for
either entity.

Silent Key:
John, K9MM, learned from his friend Alexander Frolov, 4J3DJ,
that his father Yuri Frolov, 4J3M passed away on October 25, 2013
Yuri held the 5B-DXCC #2134 and had 336 DXCCs and 198 Zonen for
the 5B-WAZ. John's last RTTY QSO with Yuri took place on October
25th...

DARC Easter Contest
============
The DARC invites all radio amateurs to take part in the new
annual Easter Contest on Monday, April 21, 2014.
The rules are very similar to those of the popular DARC
Xmas-Contest, except for the time: While the Xmas contest
takes part in the morning hours, the Easter contest starts
at 15 UTC.



WAPC Contest
============
The third edition of the Worked All Provinces of China (WAPC) DX Contest
will take place on April 19/20 (0600 - 0559 UTC) on 80, 40, 20, 15 and 10m

On April 18, members of the "Portuguese Navy Hamradio Group" will
get on the air from the "Tower of Belem" (WCA CT-00254, DCFP F-078,
DMHP LX-005) in Lissabon as CR500TB to celebrate this tower, built
