13 COLONIES (Special Event). Once again the annual "13 Colonies
Special
Event" will take place between 1300z, July 1st and 0400z July 7th.
The
theme for 2014 will be "Revolution War Era Colonial Currency". The
certi-
ficate is printed on heavy card stock. Stations working one state or,
as
many as all 13, will be eligible for the certificate. A "Clean Sweep"
indicator will be affixed, for those lucky enough to "Q" all 13. A
special
endorsement will be attached for stations contacting their sister
oper-
ation, WM3PEN, in Philadelphia, PA, where independence was declared.
New
for 2014, the 13 Colonies have added a second sister event station
W3FT
from Baltimore, MD, commemorating the writing of our Nation Anthem,
"The
Star Spangled Banner in 1814". The 13 Colonies certificate will have
a
Liberty Bell added for a contact with WM3PEN, and a W3FT contact will
have a special 15 star 1812 US flag of the period added to the 13
Colonies
certificate. They will also offer a special QSL card printed just for
this event. There should be at least two stations from each on the 13
colonies on the air, as well as Super contest stations,
multi-operator
Club stations and OM and XYL teams. The U.S. original 13 colonies are
CT-DE- GA-MA-MD-NC-NH-NJ-NY-PA-RI-SC-VA. Special events stations
mentioned
are: K2A (NY), K2B (VA), K2C (RI), K2D (CT), K2E (DE), K2F (MD), K2G
(GA),
K2H (MA), K2I (NJ), K2J (NC), K2K (NH), K2L (SC), K2M (PA) and
WM3PEN.
All HF bands will be in play except the WARC bands and 60 meters. 2
meters
and 6 meter simplex are encouraged. All modes of operation should be
represented - SSB, CW, RTTY, Digital, and the Satellites. The mode of
operation is up to the individual colony state station. For more
details
on the stations, suggested frequencies, QSL info and on how to obtain
the
special certificate, see: http://www.13colonies.info
5R, MADAGASCAR (IOTA DXpedition). [Edited excerpts from PRESS RELEASE
#1]
Nosy Be means "big island" in the Malagasy language and Nosy Be, not
far,
from the mother island Madagascar, will be the next destination of
the
Mediterraneo International DX Club (MDXC) Team! Look for leader
Antonio,
IZ8CCW, and the co-leader Gabriele, I2VGW, to head-up a team of
operators
to be active as 5R8M from Nosy Be Island (AF-057), thanks from the
help
of a local friend, Michele, 5R8UI, between October 20th and November
4th.
Activity will take place during 16 days and 14 nights. According to
their
evaluations, they are confident to give a lot of DXers a chance to
work
this country (and IOTA) on the Lower Bands, 30/17/12m and especially
on
the Digital modes. The 16 operators will be an international team
from
countries. Currently, the operators listed are:
CW - Eric/ON7RN, Feri/YO5OED and Karl/OE3JAG
SSB - Ant/IZ8CCW (Leader), Michel/F5EOT, Steve/IZ5GST and
Michele/IK5ZUI
RTTY - Gabriele/I2VGW (Co-Leader), Marco/IZ2GNW, YL Manu/IZ8IYL,
Mario/IK4MTK and Henri/F1HRE
Pilot Stations - Don/N1DG (USA), Rino/IK7JTF (Europe) and Sergio/IK0FTA
(6m pilot)
QSL Manager is Giuliano, IK2VUC, for direct or Bureau QSLs.
However,
there will be an OQRS available on the Web page below. LoTW files
will
be uploaded by the end of May 2015.
Activity will be on 160-6 meters using CW, SSB and RTTY. They plan
to
have four stations on the air around the clock using dipoles, Inverted
L,
verticals and Spiderbeams. For more details and updates, visit the
5R8M
Web page at: http://www.mdxc.org/5r8m
The team is looking for sponsors and funds/donations.
6Y, JAMAICA. Lali, VE3NE, will be in Jamaica for the IARU HF World
Cham-
pionship (July 12-13th) using the callsign 6Y3M. He states, "This
time
my wife, Agnes (ex-HG9MAT) will join me, and we will be in
Multi-Single
category. She is a bit rusty but we are practicing using VE3NEA's
pile
up trainer to bring her speed up. Go easy on her though... We are not
going to win, but I am very excited because this is the first time we
are
entering into a contest as a team." Lali and his XYL will be in
Jamaica
from July 11-14th. QSL via VE3NE.
CY0, SABLE ISLAND (Press Release/Update). [edited] "Operators
Murray/WA4DAN,
Randy/N0TG, and Gary/VE1RGB will return to Sable Island for a one-day
DXpedition scheduled for September 8th, 2014. They will be using the
Sable
Island Amateur Radio Station that Murray and the CY0P team left
behind
after their operation as CY0P in October 2013. Murray will be QRV on
SSB
and Randy will operate CW. Antennas are expected to be 17m and 20m
Yagis.
Trip planning and logistics support are being provided by Gary,
VE1RGB,
who has been the logistics coordinator for three previous CY0
ventures
and was an operator at CY0P. On this trip, Gary does not plan to
operate
but will instead be providing technical and operational support to
Murray
and Randy, and to the Sable Island ARS. Gary will be the QSL manager
for
CY0C. As usual, travel will be via Maritime Air Charter using their
Britten-Norman Islander. Hours of operation will be limited by the
require-
ment to fly during daylight hours. With luck, the DXpedition will
operate
from approximately 1300Z to 2100Z on September 8th. Check the various
DX
bulletins for any changes to the date of operation due to weather,
etc."
