5H, TANZANIA. Andrea, IZ1MHY, will be active as 5H1MD from Zanzibar
Island
(AF-032, WLOTA 1080) between September 28th and October 10th.
Activity
will be on the HF bands (20/15/10/6 meters), using CW, SSB and the
Digital

9H, MALTA. Operators Olaf/DL4HG and Holger/DL5XAT will once again be
active as 9H3TX from Gozo Island (EU-023) during CQWW CW DX CW
Contest
(November 29-30th) as a Multi/2 entry. QSL via DL5XAT, by the Bureau,
direct or LoTW. Operators will be there between November 27th and
December
1st. Look for operators to "possibly" be active outside of the
contest
using their own 9H callsigns.
A5, BHUTAN (Update to OPDX.1176 and OPDX.1177). Pekka, OH2YY (A52YY),
updates OPDX [edited]: "I will be returning to Bhutan with my good
friend
Pekka, OH1TV, late September this year. The callsign we are going to
use
is still open, alternatives are A52O or A52YY. We will arrive in Paro
late afternoon on Sept. 26th and will depart in the morning of Oct.
2nd.
We will be staying close to the city of Paro. This time we have no
other
activities in Bhutan and we can focus 100% on amateur radio! The QTH
will
be up on a hill facing to north and it should give a good take off to
North America, most of South America, northern Asia, Middle-East and
whole Europe.
We will have two K3 radios. We are planning to have three 2-element
yagis: a tribander 14/21/28, a duobander 17/24 and one that can be
manually tuned to any band 18/21/24/28 MHz. In additon we will have a
dipole/vertical for 7 MHz. We will also have a 3-elemnet yagi for 6
meters. We will operate both SSB and CW. We try to start the
operation
already in the evening of Sept. 26th with a temporary antenna set-up.
From 27th onwards we will have the yagis up. On Oct. 2nd we will
have
a morning flight and need to go QRT sometime during the night."

E3, ERITREA (2014 - by Foundation for Global Children [FGC]/SEISA).
The
following press release was sent out [edited]: "Zorro, JH1AJT, will
be
visiting the State of Eritrea (E3) with a member of the House of
Repre-
sentatives of Japan and some others, from Monday, 15th until the
following
Monday 22nd September 2014, for a FGC mission. The group will have
meetings
with Eritrea's Ministries of; Health, Transportation &
Communications,
Education, Foreign Affairs, Information, and Eritrean Sports
Commission.
Ambassador of the State of Eritrea to Japan will also join the
meetings.
One of the main objectives of this trip is to finalize a draft
Memorandum
of Understanding (MoU) regarding Eritrea Japan Sports Collaboration
(2014-2020) and to be signed on a ceremony program to be held in
Asmara
on 16th September 2014.
Through this project, both parties shall make efforts to promote
sports
for handicapped people in Eritrea and also to further improve the
environ-
ments they are placed in. FGC will also support activities for the
better-
ment of education and sanitation for the children of Eritrea.
Zorro will try to be QRV (call sign: TBA) in his very limited spare
time
probably after Thursday, 18th September, mainly SSB and possibly some
CW.
He will bring a TS-590/ ACOM-1010 and a Small-IR with 40/30m optional
coil.

EG, SPAIN (EA FLT 2014, Special Event, Awards and Special Trophy).
The
Spain Football League Teams' (EA-FLT) awards (gold/silver) and
trophies
may be requested by any licensed radio amateur or SWL worldwide by
valid
contacts made on any mode or band between 160-6 meters with the 20
special
stations using the special prefix EG, that will represent each of the
20
Football Teams in the First Division of Spain Soccer. The full list

all 20 special EG stations, including online queries for the Log, can
be

FT4T, TROMELIN (Press Release, August 26th). Flo, F5CWU, sent out and
posted the following on the FT4TA Web page: "We have just passed the
100
days mark before the beginning of our FT4TA operation to the island
of
Tromelin. Since the last official press release many things have
evolved
well; we are extremely fortunate.
Thanks to the strong mobilization around our project, we are
relatively
trustful in the fact of being able to gather the necessary budget. If
we
do not meet last minute problems, and if individual donations
continue
to flow at the current rate, we should balance our budget (after the
expedition). Some partners have not yet validated their assistance,
and
we definitively count on them!
In addition, several people in Japan have mentioned to us they
encountered
problems with the Paypal button on our website. In order to circumvent
this
problem, we invite people who would be in this instance to use our
address
<tromelin2014@orange.fr> directly from their Paypal account.
Almost all of the equipment was gathered by the team. This equipment
was
lent, purchased or taken from our personal stations. We want to
express
our thanks to Spiderbeam (masts), Elecraft (radios), OM Power
(amplifiers),
Microham (interfaces), Messi and Paolini (coaxial cables), DX
Engineering
(phasing 80m) and DX World.net, which sponsors us the Internet access
by
satellite to let you use our on-line logbook and read daily news from
the
team during the operation.
At the end of June, three pallets of equipment had been shipped to
Reunion
Island. They have been transported to Tromelin Sunday (by helicopter)
by
the logistics service of TAAF.
This possibility was offered to us suddenly and was not in our
initial
plan. Although it induces very important expenditure, we could not
let
pass this opportunity because it will deeply modify the physiology of
our
operation. It would not have been possible for us to carry all this
equip-
ment on a small aircraft. This freighting marks the true point of no
return!
Our preliminary works with TAAF continue. Michel, FM5CD, and Seb,
F5UFX,
went at the end of May to Réunion to meet our interlocutors (TAAF,
civil
aviation, airline company). We want to highlight again the trusted
relation-
ship and the incommensurable assistance brought by TAAF.
2014 marks the 60th birthday of the first amateur radio activity
from
Tromelin. Prepared in collaboration with the philatelic service of
TAAF,
and drawn by an artist, a special stamp will be put on sale at the
time
of the Autumn Philatelic Exhibition in Paris (November 6th to 9th).
During
this event, an amateur radio station will be set-up on the TAAF booth
by
the radio-club of Provins, F6KOP. They will proceed to demonstrate
and
make contacts with FT4TA team twice a day. It's very important to
promote
our activity in such an exhibition.
Our website evolves constantly. The pages known as 'classical' are
available since the beginning (operators, pilots, QSL manager,
sponsors)
and news articles appeared lately (historical, bandplan..). Others
are
in preparation and should be published soon (interview of FR5ZU and
F6JJX,
two ex-'Tromelin' operators, PowerPoint presentation..).
It is the ideal time to prepare your station to be ready. On October
30th,
point your antennas towards the Indian Ocean! In the meantime join us

GJ, JERSEY. Members of the Jersey Contest Group will be active as
GJ2A
from Jersey Island (EU-013) during the CQWW DX SSB Contest (October
25-26th) as Multi-Single entry. QSL via LoTW, or direct to

HH, HAITI. Tom, KC0W, will be active as HH5/KC0W between January 11th
and February 3rd, 2015. Activity will be on 160/80/40 meters using CW
only. Antennas will be over salt water using 500 watts and dedicated
RX

IOTA CREDIT BY OQRS & PAYPAL (Proposal). Rick, K6VVA, (The Locust)
has

Pantelleria
Island (IIA TP-001, WLOTA 0041) at the end of November. In
the CQWW DX CW Contest (November 29-30th), Emilio will be
active as IH9R and as a Single-Op/Single Band (40m)/QRP
entry.
Pantelleria counts as Multiplier Zone 33 Africa Italy for
the
CQWW DX rule (islands are located over the African
continent

AS-113. Operators Yung/BU2BV, Ted/BV2OO, Su/BX2AI, Wu/BX2AM and
Lee/
BX2AN will be active as BO0D from TungYin Island, Matsu
Islands,
between September 13-20th. Activity will be on all HF

AS-200. Take, JI3DST, will be active as JI3DST/5 from Shodo Island
(Kagawa Prefecture, Shozu District) between September
20-22nd.
Activity will be on 40-6 meters using CW, SSB, FM and
RTTY.

EU-038. Marcel, PD5MVH, will be active as PD5MVH/p from Ameland
Island

13th.

EU-062. Frank, DH0JAE, will be active as LA/DH0JAE from Donna
Island
between September 8-10th. Activity will be on 80-10 meters
using CW and SSB. His rig is a K3 and K2, operating QRP

J3, GRENADA (Ops Needed). Harry, AC8G, is helping Mike, W7RIS, in
organ-
izing a team for the CQWW DX SSB Contest on October 25-26th.
Operators
should have time for individual operation before and after the
contest
of course depending on arrival and departure dates to/from Grenada.
The
group will have access to the equipment and antenna, etc. used by J3A

J7, DOMINICA (Update). Operators Janusz/SP9FIH and Kazik/SP6AXW will
be
active as J79L and J79X, respectively, close to the village of
Calibishie
(NA-101, WW. Loc. FK95HO) between October 19-26th. Their main goal is
to
participate in CQWW DX SSB Contest (October 25-26th) as two
Single-Op/
Single-Band stations (one on 40m and the other on a higher band) and
to
work as many stations as possible from Asia before the contest.

of the contest, activity will be on 80-6 meters. QSL J79L and J79X

KP1, NAVASSA ISLAND (Press Release): "The KP1-5 Project is pleased to
announce that the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service has agreed to allow
an
amateur radio operation from Navassa National Wildlife Refuge (KP1).
The
operation will occur within the next 18 months and will be
coordinated
with the USFWS work flow.
Over the past year, the KP1-5 Project has had numerous meetings
with
various levels of USFWS management. Throughout our discussions, their
personnel have been courteous, professional and cooperative. We have
been
treated with sincere interest and respect and believe that amateur
radio
operators may now be viewed as partners and not adversaries.
As with the Desecheo operation in 2009, and in order to be
transparent
and fair, the USFWS has requested proposals for the amateur radio
operation
from those individuals and groups that have already applied for a
Special
Use Permit in the past. The KP1-5 Project will be submitting a
proposal
and hoping to be selected as they were for the very successful
Desecheo
(K5D) operation.
We wish to thank the USFWS for their decision to allow this
operation.

CW operations between September 24-30th. They will try to have 2

meters using CW, SSB, PSK31 and SSTV. They will try to have a beacon

MAJOR ARRL SECOND CENTURY CAMPAIGN GIFT (To Support DX Log Archive).
The
ARRL Web page and Letter reports (excerpt): "A major donation from
noted
DXer Kan Mizoguchi, JA1BK, to the ARRL Second Century Campaign will
support
'The DX Log Archive Endowed by JA1BK.' Earnings from the generous
gift
will fund the creation and management of a DX Log Archive Program for
paper DX logs of rare and significant DXpeditions that took place
pre-
dominantly in the 1950s, 1960s, and 1970s. The archive also would
include
pre-1950 paper logs, as well as those from rare operations, and logs
kept

NP2, U.S. VIRGIN ISLANDS. Yuriy, N2TTA, will once again be active
from
here as NP2P during the CQWW DX SSB Contest (October 25-26th) as a
Single-
Op/All-Band/Low-Power entry. QSL via LoTW.
PA70, THE NETHERLANDS (Update). Special Event Station, PA70OMG, will be
on
the air between September 12-21st. Activity is to commemorate and
celebrate
the 70 years of freedom, and as part of Operation Market Garden (OMG)
in
World War II, paratroopers of the allied forces, such as American,
British,
Canadian, Polish and Dutch troops, landed in the Nijmegen region on
September 17th, 1944, and the region was soon be liberated after four
years of German occupation.
During the 10 days of activity, the callsign PA70OMG will try to
work
as many amateur radio operators across the world as possible. So far
the
special event site has been surveyed and they have chosen their
antennas
as well as the antenna-positioning on the terrain. All the necessary
equip-
ment has been collected. HF bandpass filters have been made available
by
PI4DEC and many other radio-amateurs have been very generous with
their
equipment. Thanks to all of you.
Sponsoring of the station is at full swing and they are confident
that
they will reach their final budget for the entire operation. Many
thanks
as well to all the sponsors who have contributed so far.
In the meantime many radio-amateurs have signed up to join them
during

from Kos Island (EU-001) between August 28th and September 8th.
Activity
will be holiday style on 20 and 17 meters using CW and SSB. Equipment
is
a K3 w/100 watts into a 1/2 wave vertical endfeds antenna. QSL via
GM0IIO,
direct only, SAE and either 1 EURO for Europe or 2 USDs for the rest
of
the world. NO BUREAU.
T30, WESTERN KIRIBATI (Update/Bulletin #2): "(August 29th, 2014) --
Everything is on schedule 4 weeks before our expedition starts at
the
end of September. As already announced our group will run four
stations
24/7. Also one or two more well equipped stations can be used from
time
to time and as back-up. Only one station will be possible on each
band
at the same time because we have only one antenna location. The
antenna
setup includes 3 spider beams, a 4 element for 6 m, several full size
loops and verticals and small amplifiers. Our main targets are lots
of
radio contacts with far away Europe, but we will not forget the hams
from
the other parts of the world. A serious effort is planned to all
bands
160 to 6 m and modes CW, SSB and RTTY. We decided to change the
previous
announced 10-m-SSB-Frequency from 28.445 to 28.465 MHz to avoid
conflicts
at the IOTA frequency 28460 kHz with our split. The most wanted bands
and
modes are known and will be considered. Right now we have no plans to
take
part in any contests to a full extend. If we have a good internet
access
we will do a daily log update at club log.
The T30D-crew is overwhelmed and grateful for the great support of
many
Ham Radio Foundations and individual hams. Special thanks go to

who have made a donation in advance. This helped a lot with early
expedition
costs. Our crew also wants to thank the DL7DF-crew and DL9GFB for

T7, SAN MARINO (Satellite Op). Operators Boris/9A2GA and Neven/9A5YY
will
be active as T7/homecall on an amateur radio satellites DXpedition
from
the Republic of San Marino (Grid JN63FW) between Friday, September
5th,
and Sunday, September 7th. They will be active during the day on the
majority of satellite passes. They plan to be on air via AO-7, FO-29
and
SO-50 satellites (CW, SSB, FM). Please, be short giving reports and
give
others chance to do satellite QSO with them. QSL via their home

TA7/TC7, TURKEY. Jun, JH4RHF/OE1ZKC, will be active as TC7S from
Trabzon
during the CQWW DX CW Contest November 29-30th, as a Single-Op entry.
Activity before and after the contest he will be active as
TA7/OE1ZKC.

UBA 14-18 AWARD. In commemoration of the World War One centenary, the
Royal
Union of Belgian Radio Amateurs (UBA) issues a remembrance award.
Between
August 1st, 2014, and November 30th, 2018, applicants must collect at
least
1418 points. The following rules apply for obtaining points:
* OP0PPY = 500 points
* Special event stations with prefix OP14, OP15, OP16, OP17, OP18
contribute each for 250 points; Belgian stations need to work
at
least three of these stations, other European stations two and
stations outside of Europe one;
* During the month of November of the years 2014-2018 all other
Belgian stations will count 30 points.
There are no band or mode restrictions, but contacts via
terrestrial
repeaters, Echolink etc. are not accepted. Every station may be
accounted
for only once in the AWARD application. There is an "Endorsement"
available
if you collect the 1418 points in one calendar year. Five of these
"endorsements" are available (2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018).
The AWARD is free of charge, and only available in digital form.

WEBINAR (A Long Overdue Review of Gray Line Propagation on the Low
Bands).
Ken, K4ZW, reports: "The World Wide Radio Operators Foundation (WWROF)
is
pleased to present "A Long Overdue Review of Gray Line Propagation on
the
Low Bands" with Carl Luetzelschwab, K9LA. Carl will trace the origin
of
gray line propagation, and show that there is a problem with the
current
explanation that propagation along the terminator is efficient. He
will
then provide an alternative explanation for gray line that satisfies
both
observations and ionospheric physics."

WESTERN GRID EXPEDITION (Satellite). OPDX Web Master John, K8YSE, will
be
embarking on a grid expedition to some Western States beginning
shortly
after Labor Day. The grids that he will definitely operate from are:
CN93,
CN96, DN03, DN05, DN07, DN14, DN15, DN20, DN21, DN22, DN23, DN48,
DN54,
DN68, DN76, DN78, DM38, DM48 and DM49. John states, "There will be
many
other grids on the route, but I'll only operate from them if the
situation
permits. This is a tent camping trip, and the weather will play a role
in
when and if I can operate. The first grid will be DN54 although there
may
be one or two before that depending on the timing. I will be using an
Icom
910H and an Arrow or Elk antenna rather than the setup in my truck
that
was used on the Lake Superior Expedition. Setup time and weather will
be
a factor. I don't anticipate operating in darkness although it may be
possible at campsites. I will be using computer control on the linear
birds. We don't have many satellites now and since AO-7 is now
switching
between Mode A and B, it will only be available every other day. The
primary birds will be FO-29 and SO-50. There may be some AO-73, but
not
likely. If AO-7 is weak, I may operate on CW on that bird only." John
will be track-able on APRS as K8YSE-9 (cellphone 3g/4g) and/or
K8YSE-12
on RF. He also adds, "Sometime in October I will plan a short trip
over
to DM63/64 if anyone needs those grids. And on January 1st, 2015, I
will
operate at least one pass from FM13 in the afternoon." John doesn't
anticipate doing LoTW for this expedition. Cards should be sent
direct
to him. If you have many contacts to confirm, a log excerpt can be
sent
that he can sign and return to you. Please make sure you indicate
which
grid he was in for each QSO. He also plans to record all passes and
log
on paper as well. QSOs will be confirmed sometime in December. To

ZD8, ASCENSION ISLAND. Bob, G4DBW, will once again be active as ZD8RH
from Ascension Island between September 22-30th (subject to flight
con-
firmation). If like last time, Bob will be working on the island, and
his activity will be limited. Operations will be mainly on CW.
Suggested
frequencies are around 7007, 10105, 14007, 18073, 21007, 24897 and
28007
kHz. Equipment is a FT857 w/100 watts and a modified MP-1 portable
whip
antenna. Bob will be active in the CQWW DX RTTY Contest (Septemeber
27-28th) as a Single-Op/Single-Band (15 or 10m) entry. QSL direct via
G4DBW with 2 'green stamps' or IRC or via RSGB Bureau. Bureau replies
can take up to 18 months.
