How do I properly “Test” if my radio is working?

I have a Baofeng UV-5r and an RTL-SDR.I just want to make sure that my radio is working alright by transmitting on a certain frequency and seeing if my transmission properly appears on the waterfall chart on the SDR.What should I transmit on the frequencies as I am pressing the PTT? Like, along the lines of “[CALLSIGN] Equipment Test [Callsign]”? I remember there was something about this as I was studying to pass the exam, but now I have forgotten.
