10/05/2013: Continuing the Camb-Hams traditional Scottish Island activations,

GS3PYE/p will be active once again from the isle of Mull (IOSA NH15, SCOTIA

CN10, WLOTA 2485, Grid Loc. IO76), Inner Hebrides (EU-008), from Friday 10th May

until Thursday 16th May, 2013. All HF bands from 600m (472kHz) to 10m covered

with five stations on air simultaneously, all capable of running the legal power

limit from five linear amplifiers. Also 6m, 4m and 2m with a great take-off to

the UK and Europe, again all at legal limit. With the success of EME last year

the 47th A. Volta RTTY Contest on 11 and 12 of May 2013. Operators include

11/05/2013: A team consisting of FR1JB, FR1GZ, FR4NP, FR4DJ, FR4OA, FR4OM,

FR4OO, FR4OS, FR4OU, FR4OV, FR4PE, FR4PF, FR4PG, FR5CU, FR5FC and FR5HV plan to

be active from the UNESCO world heritage site of Piton de la Fournaise [Peak of

the Furnace] volcano on the following dates: 11-12 May and 3-4 August 2013. The

callsign TO1PF will be used on each occasion. The volcano is a shield volcano on

the eastern side of Reunion island (AF-016, DIFO FR-001, WWFF FFF-011, WLOTA

1812), with an elevation of elevation 2,632m. It is currently one of the most

12/05/2013: ARI Radio Section of Mestre with the callsign IQ3ME/P will be

13/05/2013: Jim, G3VDB plans to return to the Republic of Maldives (AS-013)

between 13-26 May 2013, this time from Water Villa located on Komandoo Island,

overlooking the ocean. That should make his simple vertical antenna perform.

Holiday style operation on HF using CW and SSB. If propagation is good Jim will

try 14MHz SSB and CW; if conditions are poor, then it will be CW only. CW:

15/05/2013: Vlado, UA0LCZ, will be active as UA0LCZ/0 from the Kamchatka

Peninsula, Kamchatka Krai, Russian Federation Far East, from 15-21 May 2013. The

Kamchatka peninsula contains the volcanoes of Kamchatka, a UNESCO World Heritage

Site. The site comprises six distinct locations on the Kamchatka Peninsula, in

the central mountainous spine of the peninsula (Bystrinskiy Nature Park [WWFF

RFF-185]), and coastal locations facing east towards the Bering Sea (Kronotsky

Zapovednik (Nature Reserve) [WWFF RFF-052], Nalychevo Nature Park [WWFF RFF-187]

and the contiguous Southern Kamchatka Nature Park [WWFF RFF-186] and Southern

Kamchatka State Nature Reserve [WWFF RFF-269]). Kluchevskoy Nature Park [WWFF

RFF-188] was added in 2001 as the sixth component of the site. Activity will be

15/05/2013: Two radio amateurs will be part of the over wintering team and will

be active on Marion Island (AF-021, WAP ZAF-10, WWFF ZSFF-012) from mid May 2013

to April 2014. ZS8C Carson (ZR6CWI) has been appointed as the Space Weather

Engineer and is employed for the next year by the SA National Space Agency

(SANSA). ZS8Z David (ZS1BCE) has finally been appointed as the radio technician.

His appointment was delayed due to a clerical error. Expected modes will mainly

be SSB and digital modes, they may only use the existing commercial broadband HF

antenna, and their QSL Manager is ZS1HF. More info will be posted on their

16/05/2013: Between 16th and 30th May 2013, five members of the Sands Contest

Group from Morecambe, England, will be visiting Samos island (EU-049, GIOTA

SAS-006, MIA MG-099, WLOTA 4163) in Greece, for a holiday and DXperdition. They

will be using the call sign SZ8S, and using the Radio House at Zervou Point (WW

Loc. KM37JK) above Samos town, kindly loaned to them by the Aegean Radio

Association. The actual days for operation are uncertain, hopefully we will

start on Saturday 18th May, please watch the cluster's for information.

16/05/2013: John YB5NOF, Anton YB5QZ Anton and 2 others plan to activate some

islands of Indonesia. John, YB5NOF, has received two licenses and callsigns for

the expeditions. His plan is as follows: The callsign YB8P will be used to

activate Pulau Banggai [Banggai Island] (OC-208), located at the far eastern end

of Central Sulawesi, Indonesia, between 16-19 May 2013. The team will then

travel to Pulau Togian [Togian Island] (OC-213), in the Gulf of Tomini, off the

coast of Central Sulawesi, and be QRV as YE8P between 22-26 May. [JN6RZM]

17/05/2013: Once again the OZ1RDP Scout team (www.oz1rdp.de/) will be active

for their 18th annual whitsun-activity from the village of Kongsmark on Romo

Island (EU-125, DIA NS-001, WW Loc. JO45GD, WWFF OZFF-004) on 17-21 May, 2013.

They plan to operate SSB, BPSK31 and maybe some CW on 80, 40, 30, 20, 17, 15, 10

LOOKING AHEAD -

24/05/2013: Using a special event callsign, 9A1GEO, members of Radio Club

"Croatian Flora Fauna" will be active during the event named Geoparks

Communication Weekend (24-26 May 2013) in order to bring awareness and

importance of Croatia's first proclaimed beautiful Geopark "Papuk", (inside of

Nature park Papuk, WWFF 9AFF-014). The main goal will be to establish contacts

with other radio stations around Europe and the world from bases set up in or

around Geoparks. The main transmitting freq's to be used are 7.144, 14.144 and

21.144 MHz. Look for 9A1GEO on the main freq's but also on other bands on SSB,

24/05/2013: Bob, K4UEE, reports: "After the successful DXpedition of October

2010 (10-10-10), and a third place finish in the 2011 ARRL CW DX contest in M/S,

it is time for a return to Saba. Bob K4UEE, Steve VE7CT, Gregg W6IZT and Roger

G3SXW will enter the CQWW WPX CW Contest (25-26 May), multi-operator from Saba

(NA-145, WLOTA 2043, WWFF PAFF-027) using the callsign PJ6A. Logs will be

uploaded to LoTW quickly after our return with paper QSLs going via N4NX.

24/05/2013: Ron, VA3RVK, of Islington, Ontario, has been granted the special

callsign XL3T to commemorate the 100th Anniversary of the Canadian Arctic

Expedition (1913-1916). Look for him to be QRV on all bands and modes between 24

May and 23 June 2013. This will include an entry in the CQWW WPX CW Contest

07/06/2013: A bunch of Local Amateurs from the North Northumberland area,

EU-120) on the anniversary of the First Viking Raid 793AD. We will be active as

11/05/2013: ANNUAL ARMED FORCES DAY CROSSBAND MILITARY/AMATEUR RADIO

COMMUNICATIONS TEST - The Army, Air Force, Navy, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard

are co-sponsoring the annual military/amateur radio communications tests in

celebration of the 63rd Anniversary of Armed Forces Day (AFD). Although the

actual Armed Forces Day is celebrated on Saturday, May 18, 2013, the AFD

Military/Amateur Crossband Communications Test will be conducted 11 May 2013 to

prevent conflict with the Dayton Hamvention (17-19 May 2013), which is the same

weekend as the actual Armed Forces Day. The annual celebration features

traditional military to amateur cross band communications SSB voice and Morse

Code tests. These tests give Amateur Radio operators and Short Wave Listeners

(SWL) an opportunity to demonstrate their individual technical skills, and to

receive recognition from the appropriate military radio station for their proven

expertise. QSL cards will be provided to those stations making contact with the
